I am going to a local show here in the state in mid September. I'm going to take the Cub to show and wander around and look at what's there. I have heard all the shows this year have been great since most everything was cancelled last year.

Thanks for taking us along Dennis. Looked like a lot of fun. I've always had a soft spot for the old JD twins, there is no sound like them anywhere. First tractor my dad purchased ((he owned a garage and body shop) was a WD-45. I had to drive that thing about 15 miles to get it home. Later on he had a couple of smaller Fords, drawing a blank on model. We used them to move snow more than anything. He now has quite a few including several old twins. Need to look around for pictures of get some next time I go up.
His younger brother (Jim) had a JD 40 that was his baby. After he passed away I went with dad to Washington state to pick it up as my aunt did not want it and it was just sitting outside. We got there and the transmission was stuck. Good old dad knew just what to do to fix that, we put a battery in it and started it up to load. We tried to grab his sickle mower, but were concerned about the weight so left it there. A few years later he made a deal with a trucker to get the implements delivered to him, I know they include a blade but can't remember what else. Anyway, was visiting with him awhile back and mentioned that I would not mind having it to keep it in the family. Well now it belongs to me and he keeps asking when I am going to pick it up. Since it is inside I am in no hurry and need to try to downsize the amount of crap in the garage to try and fit it. Living in Omaha not sure what I will do with it, but maybe snow removal or putt around once in a while to keep the neighbors talking.

Thanks again for sharing and glad you had a good time.

We have an antique tractor club over by norridgewock. Never been to it but driving by they have a huge old street roller out by the road and a bunch of old iron down back in a shelter. On the sawmill note, there is Leonard’s Mills, a learning place set up in 1800s decor with buildings and all kinds of shows set in period. This was supposed to be a logging camp farm at one time. They have a restored and operational waterwheel powered up and down pit saw. That baby will spit some chips. They also have a restored and operational Lombard log hauler. Don’t know if it’s a steamer or a gas job. They were made in Waterville for a short time until they became out dated. Several still exist in various condition around the state. Pretty sure a bunch went out your way, Michigan Wisconsin Minnesota areas.

I’ve seen all kinds of things added on or cut off to make something fit on old tractors. My best guess on that one is a shield for a generator. It looks to me judging by the flywheel that tractor was fitted with electric start. So someone wanted to keep the rain off the generator and wiring. Most of the older letter series Deere’s were hand start with a magneto and no electrical. My 44 A is hand start with no battery.

Yes the IH guy has a greene tractor……

I figured probably a cover for battery.

I also figured just a rean hood or something. I don't know those tractors at all. But if the air cleaner is there maybe they had an issue with rain hitting it and running or getting into the cup and over flowing the oil or just making it milky?

No kids so no one to hand it down to and don't know anyone in the family that has any interest. Hoping to crank it up late this year or next year but just wish my garage was not so full of junk to get it down here.

But could he still make a frame and hold a small 6 volt battery there?

It is, looks like a B, just judging off the proportions in the pic. Loud mouthed one too, since the muffler is missing.

Even though I doubt that's what happened in this photo, Deere painted tractors in this color scheme in the late 50's as they developed the New Generation models (1010, 2010, 3010, 4010) so that when the engineering mules were spotted in the fields at test farms, casual on-lookers would dismiss them as Massey's since Massey had already been producing 4 and 6 cylinder tractors for years at that point.
