I was Very, Very Distracted at Work Today.

Split the rest of the oak, loaded and stacked it. Added 8' pallet. Finished stack will be 24'x4' double row. "Buffy" found this big beetle while i was splitting. Thought she had found a small critter. Penny for scale. Couple small mounds of splits to be stacked tomorrow.

 

Is that a vampire beetle that Buffy was tryin to slay?

 

Dont know but it growled when i picked it up. Saw it again today. Scurried out from a log while i was splitting.

 

Havent updated in a while. All the pin oak is stacked. Split all the maple and most stacked in shed. I was allowed storage on site as its right next door to my friends where i have a boatload of wood stored. Ive done lots of favors and extras for the 25 YO homeowner. The "shed" is his old tree house that had been taken down several years ago. The plywood that was destined for the roof got used on another project when lumber prices went nuts. I have some reclaimed plywood for it but not enough yet. Have four of six rows stacked. Wish i had stacked it sooner.
Partly filled. As it is now. Mound of nuggets on the right. Ill take windows off for better air flow.
Maybe a cord of twisted splits should fill it out. Two white oaks lay where they were felled. Next months work if the weather isnt so humid. These will get stacked behind the shed.

 

Is it me or is that platform bowing a little in the middle?

Lowes has corregated plastic roofing $25 for a 27"×12' piece. Same as the "near the house wood storage" i posted a few weeks ago.
How much were you able to jam in there?

It is bowing. Working alone i got it close to level in all directions. Really no way to get support underneath in the middle. I figured it would sag in both directions so no worries of stacks falling over.
The back was 5' tall and front is 6'...four rows deep at 7.25' long. Roughly 5 face cord now and another cord yet to go in. All red maple. I have some 2x8 reclaimed floor joists for the ends and 2/3 of the roof plywood. Also have rolled roofing for the top. All stuff i got for free. Im too cheap to buy new unless cull at Lowes for a steep discount. I built my friends 4 x 36 x 6' lean to next door to this OP for $75.

I finally got to work on the last two trees. White oaks in back dropped into the woods. Actually glad i did as the limbs were brittle and made it easier to work as they snapped underfoot.

Than a tank through the 261 bucking. More work for both saws and a bigger saw to finish em up.
Wood is getting moved right next door to my storage. The red maple from here is stored on sight.

Nice work, buddy. That's a pretty white oak. Glad you were able to finish it.

 

Finish nope, going there today to cut. Move a load or two of rounds next door to storage. Have a two cord rack open up for oak.

 

Looks like by this afternoon we'll have some tolerable processing weather. That's a beauty of a white oak too. I never turn down the opportunity to cut some.

 

Change of plans ...sort of. Finished bucking one tree with the 460. Halved all the bigger chunks and carried the wood to the edge of the yard. Bringing the hydro over and splitting on site, load PU then bring next door to stack. Ground should freeze up again this week. Most of second tree still to buck.

 

Nice work, buddy. I thought you would hand split that straight grained oak, especially with it being cold...
Hydro does make it easy though...

I’ve been slacking for the most part as my stacks were full.. though the recent cold spell had me moving stacks into my “on deck” rick racks. I will need to do some replenishment in the next year to stay on the three year plan. I’m probably about 1.5 cords in this season, so far.

You guys are going to laugh and laugh at me, but I put my name on the list for the cyber truck. So I may have a truck, of some sort, in about 2028.
In the mean time, I’ll try to warm up the car hoarding thread.. if I can find any scores. It’s been pretty dry since the pandemic, for whatever reason.
