Everyone who stops by (who doesn't burn) says I should "sell the extra". I go "what extra? I'm behind."
Honestly if the guy can get it, he should! That’s also a high yuppie and money area too so that has to help.
Recently I had a neighbor stop by and ask if he could buy some of my css’ed wood. I said nope. He then told me it will go bad before I get to it. Lol
People tend to think everything is about money only but it isn't. A huge amount of time, effort, education, maintenance, sweat, scrapes, splinters, and cleaning up went into the production your wood. I bet the wood we all produce ourselves is light years ahead of the stuff people can buy from those big firewood places. I bought "kiln dried premium" firewood that sizzled and was noticeably wet inside. What a joke. Premium my arse!
Technically speaking, there’s a huge difference between “heat treated” and “kiln dried”... heat treatment is only meant to kill bugs, while kiln dried is supposed to bring wood to an acceptable or expected MC level. Sounds like you got bit by falsely advertised kiln dried that was more realistically only heat treated.
It's kinda like the word seasoned ( I always ask what kind seasoning they use just to be a pia). I got of load of Iron wood ( hop hornbeam) apx a bit over third of a cord. The gentleman reminded me that it was green. That was a first in my book and this wood was free besides.
The definition of 'kiln dried' I've read is around 140ºF in the center for 75 minutes. Which may be long enough to kill targetted bugs but I doubt it's long enough to be fully seasoned firewood. And the reason for 'kiln drying' is to allow for shipping across bug containment borders not necessarily for serving up fully seasoned firewood.
I tried getting a premium for split seasoned cherry and nil. Only a customer down the street bought a few bundles for a friend who smokes meat. I give him a deal as i have five cords of BL CSS at his place. Under cover of a huge carport too! I help him process firewood in return. I had two cords of it come into seasoned rotation and ended up mixing it with "regular" splits for bundle sales. Have more CSS somewhere in my sea of stacks.
There are many surveys that give different answers to that but on (Average) New Jersey is the 4th most expensive state to live in! Only beat by Hawaii, California, (Massachusetts and Alaska) tie, and I think Connecticut and Maryland ties as well. New York banging a hard push on New Jerseys door. It all depends on what survey you look at but all in all, NJ is real expensive and just SUCKS!
