Got a call from my mom last night. There was a standing dead maple on her property line that came down in the wind yesterday. It wasn't a very big tree, maybe 10" diameter at the base. The bottom 4 feet was punky, but the rest of the tree is OK. While there I got a few more chunks of the big ash tree she had taken down last year and the rest of the sweet gum that was taken down at the same time. Got it split, stacked and added to the stash.
That's a decent truckload of rounds. It"s always nice to bring home some wood for the stove. Good catch..
I wish it could haul that much. It's a 28 year old 4 banger s-10. I'd never be able to get a half cord moving, much less stop it. It took me 8 round trips to move a bit over 2 cord last year. I'd rather make a few more trips and err on the safe side. It doesn't handle well with a lot of weight in the back. But it's been paid for for the over 22 years I've owned it.
