My neighbor had said a couple years back that they were gonna have their big pin oak taken down as it’s about 8’ from the house and made him nervous. Local tree service has never brought me wood, even with cash offers, as our community has a free grass and tree dump.
They were kind enough to bring me the trunk in a few sections on this, as it was straight down our alley. Even though it’s been humid as heck and over 95f most days, I finally got it cut up enough to at least get it all in my property and out of the alley. Should be enough for my ‘23-‘24 needs hopefully. Now to get them a “gift” and maybe entice them to make this semi-regular. Also am making use of where our raspberry patch and garden was as my wife deciding she was done with them things and I’m moving the garden to a better spot with more sun.
This big rounds are a lotta work and I hit metal in three spots so have been spending some quality time at the grinder.

That'll make some good burning for sure. It sure isn't much fun dealing with those big rounds in this heat though. Drink plenty of water & process away! Nice score for sure.

Congrats on the oak score. I know how rare it can be in this state. I’ve only gotten some once since I joined here and had to go 100 miles each way to get it.
I woulda thought there would be more in your area

There is quite a bit of pin oak in my area, but not many get cut down yet. My church has a few very large ones and two at our parsonage have disease or something and will need to be taken down in the next year or two. I’m hoping to grab a bunch then as well. There so many limbs in them that I’m not sure Cole and I can handle them without a chipper but we will see.

Great score there JT! Looks like the 460 got a good workout. No, its not fun making firewood in those conditions, but we're hoarders and it doesnt stop us...most of the time.
How much oak have you had prior to this?

Only a few decent sized limbs and one small pin oak I dropped for a guy two years back. That’s in. Extra years wood so I’m not sure I’ve even burned enough at one time to see how I like it.

You should have taken some oak home when you left our place.
