I'll let you all know. It's been pouring here for the whole weekend so the farthest the thing has went is from the trailer to my back yard cover. It sounds nice and strong.
It's a 420 cc. I didn't want anything much bigger. I was looking at some bigger but the $$$ went way up, It had all the amenities I was looking for as it was, auto trans, 4x4, 850lb tow package, fuel injected, etc.. It fit my budget and then some.
Don't know about you Dave, but I'm built for comfort, not speed these days... A 400 cc 4x4 can be geared down to do any and all heavy tugging with no prob. Bet you're gonna love it.
Agree! I didn't feel I needed anything bigger. The low gear on this thing is a super granny gear so I won't think I will have a problem pulling "any" thing I need
I have been looking at a used 2013. 420, thumb shifter, camo, 4 wheel drive fuel injected 110 miles. Any input on this since you just did all the homework? He's asking $5,100.
In my opinion, $5,100 is a "great" price. 100 Miles is the first service on them, so if it has been serviced, it's worth it. I have "all" the exact features of what you have. I "do not" have power steering. I didn't see the need and frankly it's a electric motor so if it quit.... I "really" like the thumb shifter, and you can put it in full auto and the bike does it for you, or you have the ESP option to shift it as you want. Mine had the straight axle "which" I wanted, the 2015 went to independent suspension in the rear. It has it's pros and cons, ride is a little better, but more things/CV joints, boots, etc.. to go wrong! As an engineer I look at things like that. The auto trans has been fine tuned and works well according to what I have read, and you should get years of service from them. I looked at most companies and narrowed it down to the Yamaha Grizzly or the Honda. Dollar for Dollar I feel the Honda came out ahead but that's my take and what I was wanting/needing. For the record, the bare bones Honda that I got with "basics" only listed for $6699 here, Mine listed for $7196 but because I took a 2014 vs a 2015 and after Honda bucks for the down payment "and" I did drop $1000 down, I walked out the door with mine for $5700. Oh, check and see if the one your looking at has an extended warranty. They come with a year! I purchased +3 years on my contract so I have a total of 4 years warranty. If you have that, I would jump at it, because the extra 3 years cost $800.
The only options he could remember was the Camo, 420, thumb shifter, 4 x4 and it's a fuelly. He said something about independent suspension, but I just assumed that was they way they all came, so I didn't ask any more about that. I doubt it has the Honda 100 hour done or the extended warranty since he didn't mention that. He didn't know if it had any towing option but said it came with a hitch but no ball is on it. Said he paid close to $7150 for it with tax out the door.
Yup, thats right. All the Ranchers come with the tow pkg. If he's giving it to you for $5000, it's worth it in my opinion. The service is gonna cost you about $200, and it's best to let them do it first, that way it's covered.
I hope you have a place to secure it when you are not riding it. Hot item for theives. That looks like a lot of fun. My boys would like me to get one. We live next to the power lines and could ride for miles. In fact, the boys and their friends come here and go out on the lines for fun rides. I won't go anyplace alone. If I tip over or fall down, it is very hard to get back on my feet. I would prefer riding on some dirt roads if I had the chance. Nice machine, and brand new!
Those Honda's just run...I have a couple Honda Ranchers in the family and they have been bullet-proof. My FIL has an old 350 rancher that gets beat on with firewood duty. Still runs like a top. My BIL just bought a '13 420 Rancher (pretty much the same as yours). The EFI is nice. Wish mine had it.
I'm hoping! I was out in Wisconsin a couple weeks back and I spoke with a guy who has one, It's a few years old but he just "loved" his and not an ounce of trouble. I really like those Yamaha Grizzly's but the Honda won out in the end. I think their both a fairly bullet proof machine. I looked hard at the Can ams, they were just a bit pricy $$, nice looking though
I don't and didn't know much about them. I do remember back in the 70's there was a guy who had a CanAm dirt bike, I think a 250, his father owned the local gas station and that bike was a "screeeeemer" Most of us just had mini bikes, all whopping 3-1/2 hp
That's funny right there.... I had a used mini bike (5 horse, my neighborhood claim to fame!) after a lengthy battle with my parents. They're were guys with Can Am's, Elsinore's and whatever Yamaha and Suzuki were selling at the time. One guy had and Indian 50CC. Not as many 4 stroke smaller CC bikes back then, until Honda started making the 50 and 70cc 4 stroke bikes.. Honda had a 75 CC 4 stroke bike (forget the name, maybe XR75?) that I was drooling over, but never came to pass.. All of this when I was 10 or 11 years old. Most were 70 - 80 CC bikes for the most part, My friend has a 100 CC two cylinder two stroke Yamaha! That's weird hugh? It was a bit more of a street bike but we didn't care, he was our age and he drove it on the trails with us.. I couldn't fit on a 125 Trail bike two stroke back then. We had a few older guys that had 125 - 250 two strokes that we, at 11 or 12 years old, would old drool over..... And that's how it started!
The biggest thing I ever had as a kid was a Honda 70 mini trail and it was a "BLAST" I bought it second hand, I think I was about 13 then. My mother was scared to death that I was going to get killed, she almost didn't let me get it. I saved my lawn cutting money all summer and bought it from a local mom and pop cycle shop. As my memory serves me I paid $325 for it. There was also a couple guy's "older" than most of the gang I pal ed around with, he had an OSSA 250 and another guy had a YZ 250. When all three of the bikes were out riding it sounded like a herd of "pizzed off bees" .
I know what the trail 70 is.. It had that stamped rounded frame right and lots of cool colors? Have you seen what they are worth these days!! My parents gave me this huge lecture on "if you ever have an accident" were selling it.... Reminds me of that movie the Christmas Story" about the BB gun. I didn't think I would ever get in a wreck and within about a month, a bunch of us were horsing around on a back street and 3 of us went down including me.... They didn't take it away though...
Around 1970 was my first motorized machine. Worked all summer at a grocery store to buy an old Bridgestone 175 for $200. I got it about this time of the summer, and immediately (after riding around the fields till I couldn't walk) striped it down enough to paint a few parts. Got it all together again, got it licensed... and off I went downtown to show off my new wheels ... got about half way there and screeeeeeeeeech... the rear tire locked up and I dragged to a very quiet stop. I learned then that when you take an oil tank off, on a 2 stroke, you better make sure you don't have an air bubble or blockage... seized the engine tight. I was devastated... ... wasn't good at all... I pouted and whined and fussed as much as I could until my folks were so worn out they'd do anything to shut me up. One of their friend's wife happened to be moving up from a 175 to a 350 and also felt bad (it worked... )... and I was riding a 175 that actually ran later that fall... I think I put more miles on that thing than any other bike I've owned since. Oh yeah, I always checked the oil level too.
