A trip to Syracuse is was on the agenda today. Returned my daughter’s family to the airport so they could fly South. Everything went smooth and they are home safe and sound with the little guy sleeping in his own bed. I bet they will all enjoy sleeping in their own bed tonight!

    Umm...how do I say this?

I just dug out the DVD and watched the branding scene.

What I saw was the transition of a bull into a steer. Then it was branded. They carried a bucket over to the animal, held a knife, removed the "berries" from the "twig" then wiped both sides of the knife blade off on the animals hide. Oh yeah, and threw the berries into the bucket....

Maybe the wiping off of the knife blade is what you were referring to as smearing something on the animal?

Our guests are leaving in the morning. Fire ring and treats were a great success along with two days of swimming.

No more tip toeing around the house in the morning when I get up.....:rootintootin:

Ah, thanks, now I get it. The version I have is shortened one, I know of several other scenes where parts were missing. Guess Rocky Mtn Oysters were not a thing back then except for the dog.

Never saw the movie, but that sounds like a classic case of editing gone wrong.

The only western I like is Blazing Saddles. ;)

Now I never have seen the movie you are talking about, but you explained it as well as you could. If I would have only seen the edited version, I could see how many would have questions.

For Sure watch it!! Your Bride will love it too!!!!!! And the music is all string, I just get lost in it. I really like E.T. music too with all the brass. Anyway, it's a must see.

The neighbors across the road from us called today to report both of them saw a bear run out of a corn field and down to a creek and thru the culvert under their driveway. They knew I was out working splitting firewood today and they suggested when I go out to work in the woods I should be packing and keep my head on a swivel. It is a lovely day in the neighborhood.

We watch Yellowstone, the tv series with Kevin Costner as well. That's probably as far as we'll go with westerns

This is a movie, not a series if that makes a difference.

Or hogs. Ex worked on a pig farm one summer as a teen and he told stories. They would cut off the berries of younger pigs and throw them to the ones that were waiting to be next.
