Reminds me of this fella. Close to 10 years ago now. Another person that just wanted to disappear from civilization. 27 years he never bothered anyone.

My husband estimated a remote cabin last week, wind turbines, batteries, solar panels. No power lines. Impressive, they even run satellite tv and have internet.

I wouldn’t call burglary “not bothering anyone”

You probably wouldn’t but look at it this way.....he wasn’t a welfare freeloader, he never caused anyone physical harm, he never caused any serious damages to people’s property. He simply did what it took to survive.

I can appreciate and identify with the spirit behind living that lifestyle, but no sympathy for someone squatting on an individual’s private property. Especially since it’s been an ongoing issue for years trying to give him the heave-ho. If the guy worked it out with the landowner and agreed to help with taxes or some other arrangement, that’s another story. But private property rights trump whatever Thoreau-London inspired idealist lifestyle this guy thought he’d build on someone else’s land.

Food, blankets, propane. People would go to their vacation homes to find someone has violated their place….

You're right! I wouldn't justify stealing by making the presumptions and rationalizations that he would have been on welfare anyway, that welfare=freeloading so he might as well steal anyway because the people he stole from won't mind because he really needed their stuff to survive and didn't cause that much damage anyway.:picard:
