Got at the dump. Very heavy, dense straight grained. Smells unlike anything I've smelled before. Splits easy. 1 stroke of the x27 here.
It's all the same wood. Definitely not oak. But it could locust. Has a similar grain feeling to black locust. I didn't know honey locust was red inside though.
I think you're right about it being honey locust. I searched titles only and saw a few pics that look exactly the same. Thank you!! And it was a good trade for me. I dumped this for the locust!
Honey Locust. I discovered it last year and love it. Yes i compare it to BL in terms of density and ease of splitting. Have a cord CSS with some skinnies to buck. Wish i could trade some nuggets/scraps for a PU full. Nice grab there LOTF! Get the rest!
Thanks man. I wish I could give you some. Too bad it's illegal to transport untreated firewood across state lines. I took all of the juicy pieces I could and left the crotches and nasties. This should fill out the inventory nicely.
Thats okay. Ive smuggled, uh i mean delivered, a load of splits to my stepdaughter in Rhode Island. Shhhhhhhhh!!!
This is one of the heaviest rounds I've ever handled. Right up there with pin oak and black oak and white oak. Maybe even heavier.
