I grabbed 22 totes last week, as I was modding them for firewood it occurred to me, that with my roofing project, I could have an extra level of "not falling off roof" by stacking two high, ratchet straping them to dog tie-downs and placing a panel made of 2x12x8's on top. Yeah, no railings, but it sure beats thin air if there is a slip. I will leap frog these down the eve as we progess section by section. Seems to be working well so far. Having a cooler full of water and Gatorade at roof level is also nice. ETA: these are intact totes, nothing has been cut on these.
The guy I bought mine from said people buy them for shingle tear off projects and trash removal. Fill them up and dump the whole thing. I paid $12.50 each. Cage with no bladder.
I was in Waveland, MS after Katrina from Sept 3rd 2005 til May 2006. Hardy Woodstoves donated a H4 to heat water for showers. We rigged up 6 stalls with tarps, pallets and PVC. If totes were more available (they were being used to supply water to neighborhoods) that would have been a better solution. ETA: trying to log into my old photobucket account and grab some more pocs. What a pain.

My first two weeks was powering the camp for North Charleston PD and Fire with my PTO driven generator in D'Iberville. The task force was working in Biloxi. I was just shuttling supplies around from shelters that were closing up north to the coast. I will say, police escorts were pretty nice.
Totes came in handy for a little eve work. I'm reusing the ridge cap to keep stray showers out until the metal is on, then we will fasten the new ridge down. South side is covered except for a 12-1/2" strip from eve to peak. We also got 12' stripped and covered on the north side. I thought I had pics but that will have to come later today.
Only having a few hours here and there is a slow way to strip and lay a new roof. I'm so thankful for two helpful kiddos and an AWESOME wife. We made decent progress over the weekend.
