Those derecho are nasty. Two of my sons got hit by one last year. One son lost 145 trees out of 155 on his property last year. Hope they don't pan out.
Nothing severe here, but the outside air stinks. I think it's the smoke from the fires out west. I'm not staying outside and breathing it. Tbe AC can filter it inside.
National Weather Service issues Air Quality Alert for much of Mass. amid smoky haze from wildfires – Boston News, Weather, Sports | WHDH 7News
It's horrible! I've never seen this before all the way from out west. Smells like plastic mixed with chlorine or something. Probably a few planes mixing there garbage in with this.
Very mild. Not like a campfire. A little bit off. Maybe different tree species than what we are used to?
Don't forget, in the wildfires are buildings being burned, cars and who knows what, that generates a toxic milk shake in the atmosphere.
We had a system move through that had some very heavy rain for us but west of our house by about four miles had power knocked out to over one hundred homes.
We had this happen a few years ago - had to have been after the winter of 2013 as I was living in this house. But not sure it was quite this bad. I've been able to smell it since Sunday early afternoon, shortly after the drizzle quit. It smells like a just extinguished campfire to me, one put out by water being dumped on it. Like a mix of charcoal and wood ash.
We must have been right on the edge of the smoke today. I looked south this morning and saw the moon clear as a bell. Sunrise was red sky again.
From what I saw on the new last night, smoke is supposed to be pushed down your way by the front that went thru last night, so you may get that smoggy feeling today.
Some wicked storms rolled through the pa/nj area yesterday evening. From what I've read there were two confirmed tornadoes. One in Bensalem PA just about leveled a large car dealership. The other hit the north end of long beach island in NJ. Lots of damage down there. Roofs ripped off, boats tossed all over and many sunk. Luckily here in south jersey we dodged it but i feel for the people who didn't.
