I got a load of this wood this afternoon, all of the leaves are brown so it might be harder to ID.

let me know what you think

My guess is some kind of elm.
Leaf is not pointed enough for Am Elm, or Eastern Hophornbeam.

splits pretty clean if it is elm. first split took a few hits because of the big knots. IMG_0033.jpg IMG_0034.jpg IMG_0035.jpg IMG_0036.jpg

I’m gonna guess elm also. I don’t know my specific varieties at all, it’s either elm or it’s not. You either love it or hate it

I didn’t see the picture of the splits before my post. Assuming it was split with the hand tool in the pictures I will retract my elm guess. I’ve never seen elm split like that with the bark still attached

Wow... Never heard of that.... Interesting tree.... Leaves were definitely a Elm leaf ... but that bark wasn't what I've seen... Learned something new today... I better quit while I'm ahead.... :handshake:

The leaves have an elmy look to it, but splitting that easy has me stumped. Never heard of cedar elm. Ive learned something new as well.

Sure, why not. I snub it for a reason, but the banter is fun so there’s that. :)
