Woah! Big Moves! In your picture I see a manual hydraulic log splitter. I'm sure you've already go it figured out but I would HIGHLY recommend you get yourself a log processor. I would guess you could split all of this in a week and not even have a sore back!
I'm with PA Mountain Man . Mill some into lumber and recover your costs. When Its all done, you'll have a mill too!
Whaddaya think about making a pile like that in your back yard??? That'll keep the mill busy for a while.
Ok that’s logical and To the wife I am assuming you can get a return on investment in your area. I mean your at about $65 a cord so far what do you you have for tools? Why is this crazy jrider does it every year turning stimulus mines into investment why nou
I found a place that I can rent a big Dyna CS-16 and for $800 for the weekend. My only fear is some of the logs are a little crooked and I don’t have much experience with a processor. But I think I’m going to give it a try for a weekend once the weather cools down a little.
There's a member here from Virginia, i think its Stlshrk who rents a processor. Maybe he came chime in and give his 2c worth. We wanna see pics/video if you do LogHog
Buddy a pile like that in my backyard ....... well I would no longer have a backyard. But to have a pile like that with a mill and be able to pick and choose would be the cat's azz.
Funny how questions like "is this too much" are rather subjective. I've never css or owned this much wood, and I've not been to anyone's home around here, who has or has had nearly the amount I do now. Even growing up using a smoke dragon to heat, I never remember seeing this much on hand. They think I'm compulsive. A lot of neighbors must know us as the "wood lot on the corner", and one neighbor is worried a tornado is gonna dump our wood stacks through his kitchen window. But, knowing what we're likely to go through annually, and then accomplishing a three year plan: its a lot, of work, of time and space, and notably its a lot for our 'hood. The difference between hoarding and storing is that hoarding is not organized, has no plan for using/selling otherwise moving the stock. Storing is organized, planfull, and does not see product go to waste due to rot or age. LogHog, if you can process all that in a timely fashion, we're all pulling for ya, and are good to see updates as the mountain shrinks and the wood piles grow as long a montha Sundays!! Sca
So I am fortunate enough to have access to equipment in short bursts. My father in law owns the local tool rental and has skid loaders and mini excavators. He said until the day me and my wife got married that I would have to pay full price until the marriage was official. Hahah looking back now just renting the equipment would have been much cheaper.
Wow. I have about 15-20 cord stacked now and with my wood processor down I'm feeling overwhelmed! I would definitely look into a processor to buy or rent. I think the Dyna SC15 has a log diameter capacity of 16" with a 20" max and some of your logs look bigger than that. Good luck with it!
Talk your father-in-law into buying a good sized processor for his rental business and let you use it! You can always threaten to send your wife back home to her parents. That's basically how I got my FIL to do anything I asked of him....
