So my CAD has lead me to this current four saw plan. Yeah I got bit bad!! The truth is one saw...probably any one of these saws...could handle my firewood duties just fine. Maybe the little Husky 545 would have to work hard for some of it....but it'd do it. So after buying and trying and selling a few here and there....here's the current lineup: Ported Husqvarna 372XPW (ported by mdavlee), Solo 665 (stock), Masterminded Stihl 362C-M, Husqvarna 545 (simple muff mod). Thanks to the good folks on this site for openly sharing information, sales, deals, opinions.....all of the things that make FHC the quality site that we all enjoy. If it wasn't for the guidance of the members here I'd probably still be my trusty old Craftsman!!
Dewey, nice line up of saws. I notice that your XPW has the XP raised sticker on top the HD filter cover. Buy a AM cover to use when running that saw, the sticker damages easilly and you cannot buy them! What was the logic behind using the Sugihara bar on the Stihl and not the Solo?
Thanks for the tip on the 372xpw cover. As for the bars, I simply put them on for the picture based on saw size and bar length. 50cc has 16". 60cc has 18". 65cc has 20". 75cc has 24". The Solo would completely rock with that 18" Sugi!!
Thanks bud. We did talk for a while today on the phone. And I must say, it was a pleasure. I could talk for days to you.. Nice saws Dew!! Anyways, his first real saw was that 545... And it came from ME.. So that explains the cleanliness. Plus, saws are an investment. Take 10 minutes after a day of work and blow them off with a compressor, paint brush and a rag. Haters are gonna hate lol
I don't wash my truck, but I clean my saws. I'm gonna end up with another 545/2252. I think you will end up liking that saw more than you would think. Time for the 81cc top end on the solo. Then you'll have it whooped. Nice bunch of saws. And nice job on brand diversity. Every brand has some good saws.
All my saws that see regular use are cleaned thoroughly with the compressor & wiped down with a rag (old t shirts or socks) after a cutting session.Whether its 10 minutes or 7-8 hours.
Just gave my lil Echo the works after a hard weekend. About 10 tanks in 2 days ! Compressed air.... Cleaned air filter and behind recoil. Old T shirt or old baby clothes wipe down. Completely tore down... Bar groove cleaned.. Chain sharpened. All my saws are ready to go at a moments notice. Im proud of that. But im not afraid to get the boogers dirty either... Thats most of the fun
Dex has been my "saw Sensei". Come to think of it he's my stove Sensei too! How lucky was I to stumble upon him? And there is truth to the cleanliness of my saws coming from him. I never took care of my stuff like this before. Hell I would never be able to justify the investment for this kind of equipment only to fail to take care of them. By the way....like my buddy Dexter....there's no way this lineup will remain unchanged!!! I think a 261C-M would look mighty nice where that 545 is sitting.
Id like to clean mine but I have beater saws and many there is no point other than the short compressed air cleanings I give every so often. I blow bar groove out more now. I dont have as much time now a days anyway. My husky bar has a loose tip that needs to be replaced and worn bar groove. I get some of my stuff off loggers for free so you know its worn out!
I hear ya ! I have 5 kids now.... So alot has gone by the wayside. Im still hangin on to being anal about some things.... But look at my dirty car an a mostly un organized garage... And you will know i have more important things to do than to be so fussy . But now they are of good ages... Where they can help out with cleaning processes... So things are getting better
