Currently selling firewood as a hobby and thinking about expanding the operation. After running the numbers if I had enough money to buy everything needed for a full time commercial firewood business I would have enough to retire and not have to worry about having a job at all.

More people should run the numbers before starting a business!

That's like dairy farming (or insert your business of choice here) the best way to end up with a million dollars is to start out with 2 million!

I'm too middle of the road for politics. I'd tick off both parties.

Every time I’ve done the math at a scale to make a living I realized I could not afford to do the actual labor myself. It is revealing to delve into it layer by layer. I start with free logs and no equipment costs and calc how many cord to match my current/desired income, including benefits. Then add on cost of logs and see how many more cord, etc.

    Kinda like farmers.

They may have hundreds of thousands, or millions in net worth.

But pretty much all of is tied up in land and equipment value. I don't know any that live in mansions.

Then you have the entertainment industry, most of them live in large mansions, but have no appreciable investment outlay.

If I had enough to buy a boat I could go fishing.

And how sweet it could be...until the body begins to balk because of all the hard labor. But for a time it could be wonderful.

I think of the time I dreamed of doing some business I really loved and tried to get started while also working full time. It was fun at first but after a time it stopped being so much fun and I also found after crunching numbers that I could not earn enough to support my growing family as I wanted to. Another of life's hard lessons.

many of the farmers around here money but they don't waste it needlessly so not so visable, very hard to get into farming these days unless somebody helps u out.
