    As in, woodstove maintenance.

I had the chimney sweep here yesterday. I had removed the stove top (4 corner bolts) so he could vacuum everything. Maybe a heaping handful of creosote. About average to past years. A 14ft of straight stove pipe. He said it all came out. Nothing sticking to the inside.

I got a new catalytic combuster and put it in. Having the top off allowed me to check on various gaskets. I usually need to cement some that are loose. All looked good, this time around.

Here's a link to a sticky, in case you haven't read it.
Tis the season for inspecting your set-up!!

    Stay safe people!

I'll do mine in the fall before fire up time... But after reading your thread, got me to thinking as I was mowing grass ... I looked up at the cap, it was clean still... I've got the screen cap, used to have issues with clogging up the small screen... so the last two caps (last one blew off in a 80 mph wind storm).... I took and cut those screen holes bigger but not too big that birds can get in... and put two screws in it... ... and fastened the pipe to the roof top....:D

Im behind this year for whatever reason. Just slacking on all fronts. Need to clean the chimney and stove, 3 cord of rounds that need split and stacked, grass and trees growing around and over my stacks, pile of junk pine sitting in the middle of my stacking area that needs burned, need to cut a scrub tree and brush to make room for 3 more cords . I better get on the ball before my FHC membership is revoked.

This summer I had water dripping in around the stove pipe during heavy rains. Found the problem upon closer inspection. Evidently snow pack slid down and did the damage on the flashing. Got the new flashing and will install it soon. I should be ready for heating season after that.[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

I thing there may be something you could install on your steel roof above the chimney so it doesnt happen again.

Yes, there is a triangular type of guard that diverts snow around the flashing and chimney. The strange part is that I've had this set up for 20 yrs and never an issue. We didn't really have any more snow last winter, so......
Maybe the conditions were just perfect this time??? Or bigfoot was up there stomping around?
