    Good morning, all.

Cool, damp, rainy today. No complaints! 2.14in of rain since Thursday. Much needed. More on tap for today.

Making some potato salad to have later, with grilled pork and grilled yellow squash, zucchini, and onion.

    Stay safe
    Stay healthy

Good morning everyone! Had a great visit with my aunt and her husband, and my brother and his wife. Our family is rather reclusive, so it doesn't happen that often. And, the house got clean.
While we were talking, the neighbor I got some black locust from a few years back came by. He said the house across from him had a black locust blow down in the front yard. I went by later and took a look. Nice size, about 16" at the base, all the brush cut off of it. It's still attached to the root ball. I've got a question for T.Jeff Veal or anyone with experience... is it best to cut the base off first, if there is a chance of it standing up again? Tips are appreciated!
I spoke to the wife and left my number, and she sounded positive about my taking it. Hoping to hear back from the husband this morning. I'll snap a pic later. u8VEyJ1.jpg
    Have a good Saturday!

The root ball might stand back up. Some people are ok with that. I would not.

I'd cut the trunk free from the root ball. If you had some branches or lumber, slide it perpendicular under the trunk to keep it off the ground when the root ball is cut free.

Then, I'd start cutting just above the root flare. Watch the kerf as it should start spreading wider. If not, put a felling wedge in and keep cutting. Go slow and you should be good to go.

Any idea on how the trunk will be disposed? A 2x4 or branch laid over the hole, will keep the root ball up a bit to facilitate removal. It would leave access for straps/chains to be slid under it.

Midwinter Mike and I are thinking exactly alike. I always try to cut the football off first. I would rather hit dirt with the chain than have a surprise trunk stand back up with me cutting it.
And the idea of putting something across the stump hole is top notch also.
Have a safe time getting that nice tree.

Good morning y'all. Hope y'all have a SUPER SATURDAY. Just working good ol' nite shift...:sleeping:...Finally got the right moulding to finish the window in the bathroom, going to put it up and blinds on the window, a couple pieces around the vanity bottom. Then probably a nap. A grandson is having his 3rd birthday party at 4:00 this afternoon.
This is the day the LORD has made, I will REJOICE and be GLAD.

Morning All. Overcast again this morning or rather fog. It should clear off to sunny skies like it did yesterday. I spent the afternoon yesterday weeding our front walk and carport. We get a lot of leaves and sand tracked into the carport so it creates pockets of growing medium.

When God gifts you with a best friend, it becomes a great blessing. "And Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself." 1 Samuel 18:3

    Happy Sabbath Everyone.

Was up early and ran down the road to a yard sale. Found a decent cast iron dutch oven. Back home in time to make breakfast. Gotta cut some grass. It's nice and cool outside. Gonna be a great weekend!
    Love all y'all

Good evening! Long day. Got pretty warm and sunny all day. I'm toast! Picked up wins from a local auction. Did some string trimming. Filled the roadside stand 3 times today. Split a face cord to begin my restocking. I need to take notes from T.Jeff Veal! This is my new wood yard behind the barn.[IMG][IMG][IMG]
