Nice job on the scrap metal. $45 will buy a decent amount of gas, or 2 stroke, another chain, bar oil or something nice to keep you in good graces with Mrs. BuZZsaw I think I do want to keep this deck for the time being. Never know when I might need another deck or parts off this one. I can find a dry spot for it out back somewhere. It’s funny I was driving on a backroad, crossed the railroad tracks and saw this sitting in the sand. Someone dumped it there along with some 2 X 6 PT lumber so I took all of it. No brainer.
Cast iron bathtub and a bunch of metal lathing from an old bathroom. There was some brass and copper tubing i didnt scrap. Have a barrel i keep tossing it into. I still have a couple 2x6's you gave me when we met up.
I had to move an old claw foot cast iron tub years ago from a 2nd floor to ground level and it wasn’t much fun. Hernia makers I call them Did you have help moving it at least? The copper and brass are nice to save until you have a lot of it. Especially if by then prices are way up. It’s been a long time since I’ve been to the scrapyard. I have no idea what metal is going for these days.
Tub was broken in two with sledge, two of us carried it out then hand truck to my PU. paid .09c/.12c lb. It was less a few weeks ago. This is a good price in recent several months. I dont call ahead just go there unless making non ferrous run.
That’s what I was thinking myself. Dang Murphy’s law. The deck ended up staying home when I went to the dump today. I did get both blades on it spinning freely so it’s good to go whenever I feel like finding large potatoes in my backyard with my mower. Every spring there’s more to discover.
I scored a load of free used lumber off Craigslist last month, the kind of stuff most would pass on. My more long term wood storage area was in need of some kind of roof that would keep it dry year round. Today was the day to get busy building something out of my ugly junk pile I still have to secure the tarp better but you get the idea.
Looks great Eric. Go buy that and see what it would cost. People need to do this more and more rather than the throw away society we live in today.
Thanks. I wish I could do all my projects with used lumber (especially this year) but sometimes it’s just not an option. That’s one thing I’m always looking for, lumber and cinder blocks. I can find 100 uses for either one even if at the time I’ve got nothing in the works.
I “scored” today While driving along a windy backroad, I spotted this 6 foot wooden step ladder tossed over the guardrail. I stopped and loaded it up, and also noticed a plastic pallet there too. I can never have too many of those. Later on while hiking, I saw something sticking out of the mud along an old dirt road that’s been abandoned for over 50 years. It turned out to be a very old felling wedge! I’ll get it cleaned up and put to good use, or maybe just keep it as a conversation piece.
Nice score! That wedge might still be useful. It's definitely had some serious corrosion. I'd hit it with the bastard file and see if it will take an edge. I wouldn't even both cleaning up the rest of it as it will be removing even more material.
I’m assuming it’s a felling wedge based on the shallow angle. I know the one splitting wedge I own has a steeper angle to help pop the rounds apart.
Forgot about this thread. Scored this sledge hammer in some roadside junk a couple weekends ago. Bulk clean up twice a year in my hometown. Ill probably rehandle it at some point in the future even though the pipe is pretty firm.
Scored this today just by asking. It was behind their shed looking like it hadnt been used in years. Asked him, he checked with the boss and it was mine. Never had an 8 cubic foot one. Thats only 16 loads for a cord. Need new tires and maybe handles plus some TLC but not bad for free. Maybe a couple pieces from the mill for the handles. I love free stuff! $150+ new
Looks good Brad. I’ve never driven a two wheeler. I’m sorta ok with that but if I had to push a wheelbarrow these days I’d want it to have two wheels White Oak handles.
Two wheeler takes a little getting used to vs. a single wheel. Not sure what ill use. I have some BL long enough but some issues with the stock (check & knot) Also some pine thick enough but would rather use a hardwood. We have some ash and oak at his house to mill yet. Handles are 1 5/8 x 2. 5' long
