Hello again everyone. I have not posted for quite some time, but I thought you might enjoy seeing this. For quite some time I have been running low on firewood and was getting frustrated as to what to do to replenish the woodshed. No truck, or trailer, no luck with local tree services, no scrounges to be found and starting to think that I was running out of options. Well things changed 2 week ago when a relative said he was removing a few trees and did not want the wood. The few trees turned out to be 8 mature Red Oaks! It is going to be some time before the wood is ready to burn, but my prayers have been answered.

Either “that’s awesome” or you win the award known as “You Sück!” which is actually a good award to receive.

It’s either feast or famine, and right now it looks like you’ll be gorging for a while

Glad you got some wood. We have bought tri-axels before. Could be another option for you to get ahead. Nice load.

Very nice. You just never know when something will cut loose. Looks like some really good wood with no rot.

Wow, thats a lot of wood there. How much do you think you'll end up with? Gonna need to add onto the wood shed maybe! If you need to burn the oak sooner =smaller split are an option.
Congrats on a great score! Keep us updated on your progress.

Don't post all that often either, but I immediately though of a post like this as soon as I saw that pic, and lo and behold, here it was!

Thanks for all the good thoughts guys. I am splitting by hand. No hydraulics available so far. The big rounds have nice straight grain and pop pretty easily. Just heavy as heck. some go over a hundred pounds for sure. I have around 8 face cord done so far. No hurry, being retired I just take the coffee out with me in the early AM and go at it. The crotches and knots will have to wait till i can get someone with a splitter in here. Maybe a rental.

Some of those rounds are 2-3 times the 100 lbs you say, guaranteed. Wet oak is heavy.
