I am working on an older Stihl 026 that has what I am pretty sure is a carb issue and have a question about the air filter.

The air filter that is currently on the saw looks like a piece of window screen. There is no flocking on it at all.

I have seen some screen filters but the mesh is extremely fine , some have been metal and also some plastic ones but nothing like this one.

I am guessing that this is not what it should look like and it's time for a new one !

It originally had flocking. The 026 had one of the worst designs ever with the choke in the filter instead of the carb, a weak spring and it will suck the choke shut. The new poly(or whatever it is) work fine if the spring is right.

Thanks , that is what I thought.
When I pulled the hood off and saw that the first thought is this is not right. Yeah the choke flap in the air filter made me do a double take as well. I pulled the filter off and looked at the carb. and scratched my head ; what no choke? Then flipped the air cleaner over and there it was.
First thing I thought when I saw it.
    Thanks.

Go with OEM Brad. Worked on a 026 for a guy that had put AM filter on it and was junk. Check the part #'s on the old one.

    Oh and not BRAD ,
    You got the wrong buzz-saw.

I know that guy and he is just down the road from me.

Long story and kind of funny....
When I signed on here I just picked that user name , had no clue what so ever that there was another buzzsaw BRAD and even funnier that he would end up being about 1 mile from me.
Who would have ever thunk' that. Certainly not me.

Great guy he is and a ton of fun to know and work with , glad to have met him through here and always there to lend a hand.
Just watch out , that guy is a machine and will wear you out.

Even funnier it is his saw :rofl: :rofl: :thumbs::thumbs:

No problem. Happens all the time.
If I had known I probably would have pick a different user name , but on the flip side it is kind of funny how this all played out.

On my first cup now , so I know how you feel.

    Yes sir.
One hand washes the other and glad to help him out , would help others here as well anytime .
He has been a lot of help to me scrounging firewood and now his latest mission has been logs for the mill.

BRAD with CAD ; immune ?
Not any more ; he has gone from immune to being a super spreader !
