Before I continue I want to make clear that if your growing a pot plant in your back yard and want to smoke it, I couldn't give a $#!T, you're a grown adult. Just like having a few beers in your back yard in a cook out or anything for that matter. The problem is, it doesn't stop there!!! No different than drinking and driving, so I am on both sides of this fence. Drugs and $$$$$$$ make people die! I saw this daily. Nothing good becomes of drugs, EVER! Very few people can sit on their back porch and smoke a joint and just stay there! That would be AWESOME if it were true, but it's not. People say drugs are a victimless crime. That is the farthest thing from the truth, families are destroyed from drugs, taxpayer dollars are spend by the millions a month from hospital visits of over doses. Ask yourself this, I've been to Jamaica more than I care to count and if you walk around, 90% of the Island is STONED and the only place that is making money or doing anything is the resorts. Pot flows like water because it grows wild and it's pretty much free. What would this Country look like if that were the case here? Eric Schamell , I taught at the USCG Academy in New London, Ct. That town is PLASTERED with drugs and violence, you just don't hear it daily. My point to all this is, 90% of ALL shootings in the Inner cities are DIRECTLY related to drugs! Fact! Lastly on this topic, my childhood friend shot himself so full of Heroin that it killed him! His choice and I said that at his funeral as I looked him in the face in his coffin. He started with "A little pot" in high school. If Marijuana were as simple as some say... and in many eyes it is, but it's NOT! I've seen enough dead bodies because of drugs! If it were all so simple... And, think about where your Pot is coming from, somebody may have been KILLED for it!

WeldrDave I can appreciate your experience battling drugs on the enforcement front. You bring up some very valid points about addiction and drug culture in general. I just for whatever reason make a clear distinction between marijuana and say, cocaine or heroin. The only place I would disagree you on is that not all pot smokers end up with a needle in their arm, in the same way that not all beer drinkers end up strapped to a bed in the detox ward, fighting off delirium tremens. I whole heartedly agree with you about harder drugs though. I have yet to meet a casual heroin addict or a weekend warrior meth head. I'll shut up with that.

Here in Ma you are allowed to grow your own. I forget exactly how many plants at a time. From what little I've read, issues/problems here and in Colorado revolve around edibles.
The War On Drugs, like many titles, is a bit of a misnomer. It's really a War on Criminal activity. It's a target to direct money at. They're targeting human trafficking and other criminal activity at the same time.
Like with gambling, state embracing lotteries is supposed to eliminate or minimize the criminal element with gambling. Not 100% of course, but the criminal kingpin element used to be a lot worse. The problems associated with gambling will always remain.
You can tell when someone is addicted, they defend the use to the end. Same with vaping. "It's SAFE !!!" LOL (guess who is a user)

There was a couple heartbreaking stories in Colo after they legalized, mostly edibles, couple crazed murders, kids overdosing, and, dogs and cats overdosing.

I have a hard time believing any amount of marijuana ingested/smoked would make someone commit murder.

While not trying to diminish these horrible occurrences... I believe responsible firearms owners feel exactly the same way about those who make irresponsible or even reprehensible choices with guns.
Personal choice and personal responsibility must be the norm or we lose every right we’ve ever had.

Exactly... what was the status of their marriage, what baggage did either spouse carry, what else was left out of the picture?

What I get out of that story is a dude killed his wife and is grasping at straws to get out of it.

I'm not allowed to partake because my employer has Gov't contracts.

Wish I could drop cig's as easily as I walked away from MJ.

And other than alcohol, I've not done any harder drugs.

    When I retire..
