Not exactly but I think eastern diamondback. You can barely still make out some V patterns on the back. Second pic The tail is reminiscent of a rattler. They stay rather thick until the end. I’d say that’s half a snake. There’s one thing ct grows bigger than Texas. Rattlesnakes . They get big and fat. The big ones actually look like they’ve been blown up with an air gun. I’ve never seen a rat snake that fat. They get long but usually not that fat and more taper towards head and tail.
Here’s some live ones for reference. NY snakes. A big fat one. This one is really pizzed. I almost stepped on it prior to it coiling up. We were out clearing a trail after a storm. It then became my job to watch this snake for 20 minutes while the guys I was with worked a blowdown 50’ down the trail. He did move in that direction.
Maybe maybe. If he’s willing I’ll give him a tour of the Ct den areas near my house. I’ll be the one in the helicopter LOL
Maybe just the angle but he looks pretty young to be that fat. Must be healthy. It’s the smaller ones that are cranky
Holy crap! Ill bet you can move fast if you discovered what that was originally attached to! I dont mind picking up snakes (of the non poisonous type) but for that one ill make an exception! EDIT: Chvymn99 is exactly right!
Rebirth of the v-2 rocket. Short, barrel shaped but going straight up LOL here’s a short but older one
That’s a big nope rope. If I had rattlesnakes that large lurking around my piles I’d probably keep the grass around them cut down to soil level. Or carry around something with .22 shotshell
Yep.. Not in my neighborhood thank God I'm OK with the non-poisonous varieties.. but if that mofo moves into my neighborhood.. Burn it ALL down.
True story. In 1992 when I built my house I needed field stone. Seeing as dad and I were masons most of the walls around our houses had been picked through already. Had to go way out in the back 40 for nice stuff, summer. Had the John Deere, trailer and a 12 gauge “coach gun” with me at all times. While the rattlers are protected I saw no reason I shouldn’t be protected as well
I assume there are "seasons" for rattler harvesting, protected otherwise? Yeah.. my personal well being trumps the snakes well being. Dealt with them a lot in Lubbock TX.. as long as they "left my vicinity", I had no issue.. advance "into" my vicinity.. Boom!! They, like most animals, will retreat to safety generally, if they're protecting a den they will stand ground, but seldom "attack" without provocation. The way I tromp through the woods.. I don't think of them here, and I like it that way.
No seasons here. Protected year round, vehemently. Summer is just the season they are out roaming in this neck of the woods. Not sure about Texas. There’s been quite a few sightings in my neighborhood the last few years. Think the numbers are increasing again after years of decline. I generally stay out of the woods during summer. Especially with my new/old city dog. He just ain’t bright enough IMO
I'm with you, dude. I love the bull and garter snakes that we have around here. They keep the pests in control. But I have a dog and a 2 year old son. I'd pop a rattler if I ever saw one on my property. Fortunately, I've never seen one at my altitude.
