'Woke up sweating': Texas power companies remotely raise temperatures on people using their smart thermostats As an HVAC technician this just blows my mind..... When you read the headline, you get the impression that these peoples thermostats were "hacked" into by the power company. Obvious clickbait!! But when you actually read the article it says that these people voluntarily signed up for a program, (which probably gave them a break on their electric bills) that ALLOWS the utility companies to change the setpoint of their thermostats in their houses!!!! THEY SIGNED UP FOR IT!! And when it actually happened, Oh no!! Now they're mad? Unbelievable..... You know, heat is a necessity no matter where you live. You can't build a home without some form of heat in it anywhere in the USA. Cooling, mind you.....Cooling is a luxury. Our grandparents never had cooling in their houses and they didn't b!tch and whine. Sure they had it rough, almost no matter where they were from or what they did for a living. We as a society have gotten so soft in my opinion. I wonder where we are headed. Could our younger generations do the things that our ancestors did? Or am I just getting older and cynical....
Pretty pathetic that people would drink that Kool-aide. I sneer every winter knowing I cut my electric bill by 80%. seriously need to move to solar to reduce even more.
It's opt-in here in Mass . With Eversource ( about half the state coverage ) you have to enroll in EVersourceConnectedSolutions and you have to have central A/C. They pay you $25 when/if you opt-in and $20 every year thereafter. Or until they change it. Click-bait and/or red-state targeting for their readers/viewers that only read headlines. Unfortunately "News" isn't news any more.
