Haven’t used either a lot, but they are both solid runners! I need to stretch the legs on the 880 soon! 99B03EC8-A7EA-4E75-9649-5E974AE993EC.jpeg 8C198195-B065-43DC-926A-CAE1B33E09EA.jpeg

You know that Stihl sells a " blankie " for the 500i so you don't have to use cardboard.
    Not sure about the 400 though.:rofl: :lol::thumbs:

Stopped by a couple OPE dealers. One had tw0 MS170's on the shelf. The other still had two MS400's

Older thread, but thought I would revive it since I almost picked up a 400 yesterday. I needed a few things from our 'local' hardware store (which is also a Stihl dealer) and the chainsaw shelves were bare except for small homeowner saws. After getting back out and scrounging earlier this week, I am debating getting something with a little more kick than the 362. Don't get me wrong, it works great, and I made due with just a 290 for a looooong time, however after getting the 500i earlier this year, the 362 seems a bit lethargic. I am considering a 462 (wasn't even familiar with the 400) but one of the store reps said I could look at the last 400 they had received (it was stashed away waiting for the buyer). Dang that thing is light! They've been waiting several weeks for the buyer to come pick it up and pay for it so I told the sales rep that if the deal falls through to call me and I would be there within the hour. Haven't heard back so it probably won't happen but now begins the internal debate over whether to get a 462 or a 400 (whenever they finally get any in stock). The 500i is a phenomenal saw but more than I need to carry on a regular basis when scrounging.

I really like my 462 with a 24” Stihl light bar. It’s light and outperforms older 70cc saws. I’ll eventually get a 400 too. Get em both while you’re stihl young.

I've been eyeballing the 462 for quite a few years, and should have just got one instead of the 362, so that is what I will probably end up with. Just really like how light the 400 is.

Id get the 400. I picked one up briefly back in the Winter when my CAD was really bad. Have\ing the 79cc 500i and a 362 at 59cc the 400 is a nice go between at 67cc. the 462 is too close power wise to a 500i from what ive heard. Lighter is better in my book. Just my two cents.

I sold my briefly owned 036 Pro last month and will put that toward a 400. Id like to sell a couple more saws first.

That’s not how we play the game Brad. All +’s no -‘s. You can keep some at my house if you need to. :handshake:
    Weight of 400 is 12.8lbs
    462 is 13lbs
    500 is 13.9
    150 is 5.73

Very True! Sorry to let you down!:emb:
With her questioning my multiple saw owner ship i have to tone it down on saws. The 036 i bought to help a friend, got it working good or so i thought and it gave me hot start issues back in September. I had enough. I was hot and sweaty and when i want to cut wood i want the saw to work.
My 335 XPT Husky i dont use anymore. My 020 rear handle was a spur of the moment buy that i regret so that will go as well.

With the weight that close its hard not to buy the 462. I think there is roughly $200 difference in price between the two???

That's around the price difference they quoted me today. If I keep the 362, I ,may opt for the 400 however if I sell the 362, I will probably go for the 462. (Might be weird but it makes sense in my head). I don't plan on selling my old 290 so I would still have a saw in the 56cc range for smaller jobs. I like the idea of the lighter 400 (even if it is only around one pound) but it's hard not to go for the extra cc's when there is only a couple hundred dollars in difference. I agree with you that the 462 is pretty close to the 500i in cc's, however I prefer to keep the 25" bar on the 500i and would just go with a 20" bar on the 462 (based off the average of what I cut during scrounges).

No let down my friend, you gotta do what you gotta do. I like my keepers to be usable and dependable. If they can’t show up for firewood duty it’s gotta go. I returned the 046 because it didn’t match the asking price. Broken mount, something off with the starter, tank vent leaking. If the seller makes the fixes I’ll get it, but I’m not going to pay his asking price for a fixer upper. I’d rather put those premium dollars towards a 400, because I’m going to go lighter and easier to use 80% of the time.

Makes sense to me. A 290 was my only saw up until almost four years ago. I kinda miss it in a way. Sold a couple Summers ago. I cut a lot of wood with it. My 261 replaced it. Since getting the 500 i dont use my 460 (77cc) that much anymore. Is your 362 Mtronic?
Edit: read your sig line and i see that it is Mtronic.

If you’re trying to stay clean and keep your money, it’s recommended to stay away from the crack house.

I don't use my 029 super really much anymore. I could sell it, but my dad bought that new and I was with him when he bought it.
I find myself using the ms170 I got in the raffle at Dennis's GTG, or the dolkita 6421 if I need more power. I did break out the 029S a little while ago, just to use it.

If I were to get a ms400, I'd probably big block the 6421, and send it out for extra sausage while I'm at it.

I did like my 170 for the most part the short time i owned it. Gave me problems on a paying job and i decided to sell. Property of Eric Schamell now. Took a little getting used to using a saw that light in weight. My 201 rear handle more or less replaced it.

That’s why I went with the 261 last summer. I was dead set on the 400 as a do it all saw up to 20” logs. I handled the 261, 400, 462, and 500 at the dealer the only significant difference in my hands was the 261 was noticeable lighter and more nimble the other 3 felt about the same.
I have no regrets with the 261, it handles all of my cutting up to 18” and sometimes a little bigger! And I can cut with it all day and not slow down.
EODMSgt looks like the 261 would fit in your line up pretty good, unless you’re dead set on more cc.
