D9069A41-6A76-4E39-8C8D-A3DE7CDB8161.jpeg That hard decision has been made. I am taking Ebbie in tomorrow afternoon to close her circle of life.
She has been a great dog for sixteen years, but her hips are just gone, and she is tired.

The first several years, she would run beside me for hours while I was on the tractor, and swim in our lake, fetching and laying on our raft.

she has been a great family member and irreplaceable. Even the veterinarian/ boarding facility regard her as one of their special dogs. Staff would take their work breaks just sitting with and petting her. I suppose some dogs are jerks.

I am taking the day off to be with her and then take our ride. 2021 has been a tough year already with other events.

Ebbie was taking in by an older lady in KY, after being left chained to a tree when some people moved to another house. The lady cried asking her daughter to make sure she had a good home. From six months old, to now she has had two farms, with lake, and creeks, woods and fields.

She protected us from fearsome rabbits, trucks, and bumble bees. Kenzie and Richelle gave her constant attention when they visit.

the dreary weather tomorrow with reflect the mood of the day.

We have had a lot of Labs and this never gets easier. 16 years is one hell of a run though. Cherish that. Several years ago a friend gave us a garden stone after we had one put down, it reads Labs leave paw prints on our hearts. This is true. Sleep well Ebbie.

I'm sorry to hear this. For what it's worth it sounds like she had a great life and one most dogs can only dream about.

Sorry for you. I've been there. Always have the burden of guilt after. Have pictures out. They remind you of the good times.

I'm so sorry. Happy Trials Ebbie. Like other's above I've had many dogs, I'm missing the two I lost last summer terribly more than others. Good owners give their pet a good life, Great owners give them a Great life but also a Dignified death. My thoughts are we are Blessed with these precious little souls for a reason. I just wish their little bodies did not get old.

I imagine Ebbie was "one of your children".

Her absence will be a huge and unique hole in your lives.
I imagine Ebbie was part of and saw a lot of things that will never be repeated....part of your history is now no longer present.
She won't be there to share more of your lives.

But, while we want things not to change, perhaps its unfair that other deserving animals don't yet have a chance to share your lives, to benefit from your love and attention....to be richer for sharing you and the real love you have to give....

    Grieve well, and look ahead.

Keepin yall in my prayers today.

So well said, esp the part about other animals have a chance to be part of your life. I know many who won't get another dog because of the pain of the loss, but forget about the joy of sharing that they had.
