Income these days is something you cannot live without or within.

Spoon feeding in the long run teaches us nothing but the shape of the spoon.

What about those people who are afraid of Friday the thirteenth? Consider this: The United States is loaded with 13’s. It started with 13 colonies and a 13 letter slogan, “E Pluribus Unum.” Our flag has 13 stripes and also began with 13 stars. The seal has 13 stars, 13 stripes, 13 arrows and 13 leaves. Thomas Jefferson was born on April 13, 1743. The first Veterans’ organization, the Society of Cincinnati, was formed on May 13, 1783. The prototype of the popular image of Uncle Sam was first seen in the New York Lantern on March 13, 1852. Francis Scott Key knocked off the Star-Spangled Banner, on September 13, 1814. Woodrow Wilson considered 13 to be his lucky number. He dropped his first name, Thomas, to give himself a 13-letter name.

Ask a woman how she stubbed her toe and she might say she walked into a chair. Ask a man and he’ll probably say some s.o.b. left a chair in the middle of the room.

In any controversy, the instant you feel anger, you have already ceased striving for truth, and have begun striving for yourself.

The Lord may help the poor, but not the poor and lazy.

An accountant always dreaded income-tax time because of the attitude of most of the clients. The general opinion seemed to be that the accountant was always at fault for not finding more deductions. One day, an immigrant farmer and his wife came in to pick up their tax return. The accountant considered absenting himself from the office when he saw them coming in because they owed more tax than any of his other customers. He expected a full-blown confrontation. But when the man came in, he studied the return thoughtfully while the accountant explained each detail, including the tax due. Then, turning to his wife, the farmer said, “That’s cheap rent, Mama, to live in this country.”
