They do. I always remember my mom saying about the males distinct "ick" call which ive withnesed firsthand at the feeder while being only a few feet away as well as its serenade song too! They let me get a few feet from them while at the feeder. Our feeder is maybe 15' from the back door.

I had a rose breasted grossbeak around last year but havent seen him yet. My indigo bunting has made an appearance besides the usual influx of blue jay.
Rens using a couple of the bird houses, cat birds hanging out. Resident cardinals always around with the abundant wodpeckers

I need a better idea to deter Barn Swallows from building nests above my sliding glass door. I enjoy them and welcome them, but not there... Know of anything different than netting and find chicken wire?

Are they sticking mud to the house on building on top of a light or something?

On the siding between the top of the door and the 12" roof overhang.

Yes, mud, one tiny blob at a time.

I've seen people hang strips of mylar or old compact disks on fishing twine to deter them. They are persistent.

    Great ideas, thanks!
Persistent, yes, perfect word! Our metal pole barn is covered with them, just don't build above my back door :)

We have a pair of them that build right over our front door on the light fixture. IMG_5080.JPG Ive taken the nest down but they keep rebuilding so i gave up. Now rather than chunks of moss and mud we get droppings. IMG_5081.JPG
Funny you posted WW as this morning im out by my truck and a low flying crow goes over my head and lands on the edge of the roof maybe 30' away. I watch it hop over toward the nest and get on the light fixture next to it. He was going to take the babies! I scared it and next thing mom and dad swallow chasing it around as well as a blue jay and another bird.

We mostly have a "live and let live" policy around our house (except for moles). One thing I can't stand is the crows getting in the bird houses and into the many nests in the yard. When I see them after the nestlings the .22 Beeman air rifle comes out and crow season opens!

We had a Summer Tangier on our back fence. I don’t think we have seen one before. Information says they feed on bees and wasps. Sounds good since those things are plentiful around our patio.

I just googled those, again, WOW, such brilliant pretty little things!

I meant to respond to something you quoted me on a day or two ago, I'm sorry, got busy and did not, now I don't remember where it was. No biggie but I thought I'd let you know.

We had Black Headed Grossbeaks at my previous home, 2 covered decks with feeders and doors always open in the summer, their song is my all time favorite!! I loved hearing them, they always sounded content and happy to me.

I get up the other night and flip the back light on. Raccoon in the feeder two front feet on it with two feet on the pole. The feeder is hung out from the pole about two feet. I scare it off, but it has returned as the mounting wire was bent again and the sunflower seeds werent level inside. Four squirrels feasting on the spilled seeds this morning. IMG_5084.JPG
    This means war!

Danged coons must have been on the prowl overnight as the bird bath is tipped over.

I rerigged mine but Rocky is determined. Hanger was bent and sunflower askew inside. Bluejays have come back and woodpeckers jackhammering on the wood shingle siding have brought me close to taking it down for the Summer which i did last year.
