Unless we get some good rains next week, we'll be going in the wrong direction. We never received any April showers and very little in May so the rivers are low and things are dry.
I'm in disbelief, this is first time I've seen the foothills on the northern Front Range in Colo not in drought (too many years, a decade+ of D4, except our previous maps used to have dark brown too which I'd guess was D5) and even since I've been here---we are normal with a small bit of D0. AMAZED. Husband and kiddo cut a tulip and brought it in to me, we had no idea there were even tulips out there by the logs , for how many years?
Been dry here, map says abnormally dry, we had all chisel plowing done for my buddy in April. It rained sporadically the end of April, and the first few days in May. Crop insurance wouldn't cover seed in the ground til end of April. Everything is planted as of Monday. We got a little rain Wed, not enough though. We are due for a long, hot, dry summer. I hope it doesn't hurt yields this fall if it happens this year.
Even though we're 4in below average, YTD, we're in an uncolored area, per that map. An inch, or more, of rain is in the weekend's forecast.
I’m on the line of D0 and none. I can say, I Rototilled the garden last night getting it ready to plant and dust was flying. Never hav had that happen before. Streams are low and a lot of the lakes that are drained for winter never came back up.
We have got rain this week and yesterday I even saw some standing water where there has been none so far this year and that area typically stays wet until July or August. More rain last night and raining now. The first rains we got really got the corn and beans growing nicely but now we need it to stop for a week or so. Most of the crops were planted here in the first half of May and I've never seen that before. I've even seen some wheat headed out a week ago already.
Yup, most fields planted here...ground was a bit dry, not bad...but getting a nice all day soaker here today...probably there too? Rain looks to be fairly wide spread in Ohio today. Yup, they were getting after it the weekend of the GTG...
D1 (moderate) according to the map. It is dry, though. The pond is low, and the soil is dusty early. I heard on the radio it is the 2nd dryest spring recorded, with the dryest being in 1920-something.
Hoping for some rain. We have a dug well and its getting low. Been wanting to presser wash and undercoat some rust under my truck but Im going to wait . We sure haven got much rain this spring. Funny thing is the darn grass in growing real well.
Yep, finally get some meaningful rain. It will also wash the road treatment put down on bridges and on-ramps the first week of May when they thought we could have ice. That white crap as been along the berm all month.
I’ve noticed some people are cutting hay already in a few places. That’s a few weeks earlier for sure here. Might make up for only getting one ok crop and a really chitty second last year.
I'm a D-3 up here in the northern Dakotah Territory. Things are really hurting. They are hanging on by a thread right now but it is really reminding me of 1988 where the subsoil moisture carried us for a year then in 89 when that was depleted we were full on dust bowl. Really hope something gives.
We are D0. The interesting thing is, if you add in the deficit from last year, we would be 12" under (instead of just 4-5" under) and still be in D1 (according to what I heard on the local news a couple of days ago). Getting rain for the first time in 2 weeks. It rained all night, and we've gotten about 3/4" - that just about doubles what we got for the rest of May. The swamp next door is still extremely dry, although not as bad as when we were in extreme drought last summer.
Significant water deficit here but not D on that map locally. Got 2.5 inches so far from the rain forecast for this weekend. My strawberries, blueberries and rhubarb will like this good soaking rain and it will surely allow the weeds to explode with growth.
Just inside D0 in my area, although with yesterday's heavy rain and more all the way through Memorial Day I assume that'll pull us out of drought status. I would've preferred a warmer rain as I've had all my plants in the ground for a couple weeks now, but not much I can do
Got another 1/2" of rain yesterday, so up to 1.25" so far this weekend. I can't even hear any water going thru the drainage ditch, so the swamp is soaking it in. The forecast changed and they say we will get some heavy rain - wouldn't cry over another 1 or 1.5".
