So I'm sitting at my desk at work yesterday when the power goes out. Not really a big deal, as our generator kicked on and I was able to continue my day. I didn't think much of it until lunch, when a coworker tells me, "Can't leave that way, gotta go around. Looks like a tree fell and tore down some power lines." Of course this makes my heart skip a beat because I KNOW there's the potential for a score. And boy howdy there was. They had the road down to one lane yesterday and today, and I was able to park on the side and snag some decent sized red oak limbs and a couple rounds that I could lift. Looks like the downed line left quite the scorched area. It's been dry as a bone here in CT, and luckily things didn't spread. I assume our emergency folks were on the scene soon thereafter doing the big work and I applaud them for that. A little score and some scorched earth. Not a bad day. Too hot to swing the maul but I did get to run the big 372 clone and dial in the carb. Maybe I'll hit it again tomorrow.
Nice find! Seriously! Very dry in CT. The storms Wednesday evening missed us; only had .003" of rain from those.
I like the way you think! Great grab there RK! Storms missed us too here in North Haven. Just a small amount of rain.
Thats awesome rainking! I love that excited feeling when I get an email or call that there is a tree on the right of way. Im the only compulsive cutter at our station, and they know I burn. The saws live with the truck, so I can generally respond fairly quickly. Nice catch. I hope you have time to grab all there is. I cut at my.score, for nearly 3 hours. In the rain. Got 3 trailer loads ready to go pick up!! Sca
I like the dry weather. We got the rain now and now the ticks will come out. Can you split on the spot and get it all?
Don't know if this was aimed at the OP, but I'm not putting too much energy into splitting on site....just want it "off the street". I have chainsawed some of the bigger pieces into quarters....not breaking myself for wood anymore. Sca
It is always nice to get free firewood. Good for you being ready and on your game when something comes up.
