Ok fellow hoarders need opinion on Mulberry. How does it burn? What’s the dry time? Is it worth messing with? Tree service friend has a bunch of it he’s trying to unload on me and need to know what’s what with it.

Love it. Burns hot, dries fairly fast. Only downside is that it pops like hedge

Take it, take it, take it! Splits easily. Rare wood around here. I have a half cord CSS.

You should just look it up right here!! Go to "Resources " then look at the chart call " BTU and Drying Times" you can answer most of your questions on your own. Its great, I look at it all the time!!

I believe you are getting solid advice from everyone who has replied. I will echo their thoughts as well. Take it, it’s easy to split give it 18 - 24 months to dry & provides great BTU’s, Mulberry is actually in the same family as Osage. The added advantage of Mulberry is that it is a fast grower so there is usually plenty around.

Sounds right...12 months not enough, 24 months is plenty.

I am sitting on 8 cord of Mulberry that was c/s/s in Jan. - March of 2020, so this fall it should be about perfect. I haven’t cut any this year though.

Great Smoking wood... To me Mulberry is good wood yes, but nothing like oak or honey locust. I use it for shoulder season wood

Mulberry is great firewood! I get it to season much quicker than red/white oak. It cranks out the BTU's, so get all you can. When you cut it, it will be yellow. After sun exposure, it turns dark reddish.

Most BTU charts I have seen place mulberry right with or slightly above most oaks

I know that’s what a lot of people say... Grizzly Adam use to love it too. I just don’t see it as a “great” firewood. :handshake:
