Lovely gardens on FHC. Here a few more shots from today: I transplanted this spruce from our land up north about 7 years ago. I didn’t notice at the time, but the planting including this wild rose which is now competing pretty well with the tree! It is over 8’ tall. They sure don’t get this big north of here. In this guild there are forget-me-not, a juvenile holly-hock, strawberry, Lupin, chive, all interplanted among a row of three of my apple trees . There is also garlic, strawberries, daisies, lettuce, dill, onions, and several asparagus crowns in this bed. Most of it is self seeded.
We have a lot around here. In the fall, the berries seem to fall early. If they land in the street, a big purple smush area shows up. The berries are very tart.
Looks like black cherry to me, too. Fruit is black(purple) in the Fall. They're not very big fruit, smaller than a blueberry. Birds love 'em when they're ripe. If you've ever left a white car under a tree you've cursed both the fruit and the bird(s).
Yeah, a native black cherry - the fruit does not stay long as the birds love it. The last one (not enlarged) looks like it could be a native black chokeberry - but the picture doesn't really have enough definition to tell. The two get often confused as the plants look much the same (when the balck cherry is in shrub or sapling form). My choke berries are in bloom but the black cherries have not made it there yet.

So many colors out there this spring. Unless indicated otherwise, pics taken yesterday. Flowering almond - taken on 5/15, before the red rhodie behind it bloomed (red rhodie in bloom is toward the bottom) Azalea - the bottom is blooming while the top of it still has closed buds Crown Jewel Iris just opened yesterday Pincushion flowers. I planted this one a couple of weeks ago. The ones I planted last year are just now starting to show some green. Red Rhodie The red rhodie shrub is kind of sparse - but it always is and it keeps coming back year after year. The crabapple was stunning up until the very last. It dropped all of its flowers at once. I somehow managed to get a pic on 5/16, the day before that happened
Ah, I saw those mountain ash leaves, but assumed they were background and the flowers went to other leaves behind it. Deleting pictures can sometimes be frustrating - you gotta do it twice, once in the post and again in the picture listings.

You folks make me jealous. I woke up to three more inches of fresh snow. The cold even murdered my rhubarb a couple days ago.
Some of our lantanas that get the most sun are blooming. Our hydrangeas are just beginning to get bigger and turn blue.
Yesterday was a slow day at work (don't be jealous - I've managed to to take less than 8 hours of PTO so far this year), so I took off half a day. Okay, I lie, I took off 3 hours out of a 9 hour day. Anyway, it wasn't blazing hot, nor was the wind howling, so I tidied up the roadside garden. I moved most of the mulch, layered in some manure/humus, then laid new cedar mulch. I love how the new mulch always makes everything look so tidy and helps the colors pop out. I need to dead head the Daffs The nine-bark is suffering from the drought so I made sure to water that area thoroughly (I have only watered the new garden thus far this year)

Mock orange was mocking me I still can't get this new phone cam to focus. Grr. Rhododendron flowers are popping
Are you touching the phone screen when looking at the thing you want to photograph? That usually “tightens” the focus to the subject matter.
Maybe. My old phone(Motorola Droid mini) I touched the screen to take a picture. The new one. (Samsung Galaxy A21) I can touch the screen to take a picture, or there's a different button to touch, I'll have to compare the differences. Thanks
It's a branch that grew into the guy wire and the utility guys didn't try to remove it when they took that tree down several years ago.
Do a quick stab on the area you want it to focus on, it will try to stay focused on that until you take the picture. That is a nice picture - you got it without my additional input.
