This friend speaks my mind. If I get this score, I'll cut and haul. The bigger stuff I'd like to split to non-backbreaking size. Id rather split it all on site and stack it right out of the trailer. However, because it is a rather public location, getting it outta there is kinda priority. Have all summer to split and stack (1or 2 cord in rounds presently). Sorry to hear of your lack of "throttle therapy". Its ok to give it all a short break, and hop back in with refreshed gusto when the spirit moves. When I get this all on my land, I'll relax and enjoy. Sca
Sounds like you need to at least rent a dump trailer. I'd make sure to let your parents know that you have to do it the hard way because they didn't approve of your requirements for dry wood, and they ignored your request to make it less work. With my mom, I'd just tell her that I'm taking all the wood, regardless of how difficult or easy it is, and that it would be nice to do it the easy way versus the hard way, but that you were given no choice. guilt them into it. But as odd as my mom is , she would be 100% on board with my request to stage wood at her property.
Been considering that. In the end I'll take the long route and preserve the relationship. But I will be sticking around only for a short lunch to preserve productivity. Sca
If you live in the Manchester area I saw this in Bolton yesterday. A nice little score to whittle away at. Ran into the LogRite facility too. I was looking at a big granite scrounge. Thinking about collecting rocks too Mom will love that LOL
I remember when I was a kid, my parents got me a rock turner for Christmas. I was so excited, thinking I'd take rocks from out in the yard and turn them into polished beauties. Then I realized you had to turn them about 10 million times to do so.
Sirchopsalot with the wood source being only 20 minutes away, I can't understand why you would even consider hauling it to someone else's land! Get that stuff home pronto!
It’s a Connecticut thing. Small crowded state makes 20 minutes seem like a long way whereas out west some people’s driveways are that long. Funny but true. People in Rhode Island never travel more than 10 minutes from their home
More because the drop point is close to the score, and the drop point is on my already traveled route. And, i dont want to haul the wood out and about, but rather leave it out of the way, and take.it home from the drop site. I like my truck, but when traveling just under 100 miles a day, an 8 cyl gets spendy to run. So im avoiding hauling it further than I need to. ....and making special trips out that far just for wood. The cost of fuel will out pace the savings of the free wood at some point. Sca
Unless I’m missing something it still needs to travel the distance. Your just doubling the workload by moving it twice. Light on that throttle LOL
That is very true. Here, we look at something and go "Oh, that's only 2 hours away, that's not far", we drive 50 mins one way to go get groceries , As far as firewood, I try to stick around within a 20 min drive, bit have gone farther.
I drive 30 minutes one way for Chinese food once a week. Heck 10-12 minutes to the closest gas station.
I live in what’s called “the sticks” “ the boonies” “ way out in the middle of nowhere”. 1.3 miles to gas. 3.2 miles for chinese. 3.3 for a supermarket. Crazy ain’t it?
Like you said the three lower New England states are all very small and crowded. There are parts that are rural and spread out though. Western MA and Northern CT for example.
