weed juiced up on steroids!! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE BL and never turn it down, but it seems to grow more like a weed, than tree. Have poor soil? No problem. Have a steep bank? No problem. Cut root only thing left? It will grow, no problem. Some examples:
Biddleman. Get ready,in the next few days they should be in full bloom. One of the best smelling trees out there. When I had bees it made an awesome honey.
I’m unfamiliar with the full life cycle of the BL tree but I can attest to their ability to sprout fast and thick. Found a pile of large BL logs on private property driving by. An old farmhouse that had burnt and been razed. A score I salivated over but could never get in contact with the owner. Last fall I decided to do a drive by and check on the status of those logs. At first glance I thought they were all gone. Then I realized it was just all the BL sprouts now taller than the log pile LOL Dang!!
I just planted some firewood seeds today myself Figured if I water them diligently and they make it in the pot, I’ll plant them along the sunny side of my property line next year.
For all intents and purposes BL is a big weed. It is a legume so its "self fertilizing" hence the reason it grows in poor soil conditions. It needs full sun and will die once it doesnt get good sun. There's a grove like that near me ive been harvesting the dead ones...choked of sunlight. I would suggest waiting a few years before harvesting those for firewood Biddleman as tempting as it is!
Another way to propagate those is to run them thru a chipper or forestry mulcher... I have a pond damm that is covered with them after the power company had their right-of-way cleared.
That's a good philosophy. There's a few trees I'd like to plant around my yard in the near future. It's been over a year since I actually cut a tree down. Storms and scrounging have been good to me lately.
Is this BL? This is in my back yard. I think it might be with the thorns. It looks like some of the trees are dead so you know what that means... This big one is maybe 20 inches
Are you gonna take it down or hire a tree service? If the DBH is 22" there's a full cord in the tree.
You mean pay someone else to take down my own tree? That's crazy talk. I want to have the fun. I have wood for this winter so there is no rush in getting them down.
Oh,okay. Dont blame you there. Wasnt sure if it was an easy drop or not...ie building, wires, road etc.
Yeah, they should all be easy. Nothing around except a small fence which I can take down. Don't worry, when those come down, I will take some pics.
