Just got back from sis-in-law's to feed her Canaries (she's been out of town for a few days), and when I was getting back in the Jeep, things didn't seem quite right.:wacky:
I stood there observing for a minute until it hit me that the view to the west had changed somehow.:binoculars:
Drove over there and noticed a tree down, but very hard to tell which it is because the weeds are so high.
I'll get back over there with the mower to investigate further, but this could be a nice bonus if it's still on her property.
She borders about 80 acres of state land on that side.
Pics to follow, since I didn't have the phone with me.:headbang:

So, went home to do some stuff, got my saw and assorted stuff together, went over there to find a logging operation in full swing.:hair:
Explains why the tree was down.
So, I went into the woods and got a load of Oak instead.
    Don't know what kind though......

Couldn't get very close to the tree, so as usual, I had to hoof the rounds back to the Jeep.
Wife's sis called and said she'd come out to the woods and help, so....that helped.:dancer:

There's still the small end to get, but no idea when I'll get back for it.
    Got 28 rounds.

Gotta love that jeep, I've seen many a pic with many a rounds in the back.
Good eye on the 'not so familiar' looking view.
We are stalkers with a trained eye.

Next trip will be with the tractor and both trailers so I can get closer to the stuff I cut.
I'm gettin' pretty tired of spending all that time walking one round at a time back to the Jeep.:headbang:

    Nice oak score Dave..., :)

I haul way more than I want out of the woods one round at a time. Not my favorite plan.... But you have to do what you have to do sometimes....

Yes Dave, it is oak. Now one easy way to remember is to think of red or pin oak. There are both spelled with three letters. Three like a triangle so sharp point. Or to simplify it, pointed leaf is red and rounded leaf is white. You have some red there.

Oh yeah Dennis, I know about the pointy leaf being red Oak, but the leaves are larger and narrow becoming wider at the end.
I was just wondering if this was a specific kind of red Oak, such as Pin.
Lots of folks don't like the smell, but I like it. Reminds me of heat.:fire:
A couple pics of the leftovers the loggers left. I took a walk over there this afternoon and there are a few small Maple limbs that I could maybe take, but I'm not sure I'll bother when I can get tons of Oak over at SIL's.

    Ok, so not Pin.
Took the day off and made a run to Mio (about 45 minutes south) and while there, picked up another chain for the 20" bar.

The 18" has little pieces of tooth missing at the tip on quite a few of the cutters.
Not sure if they're wearing or actually breaking off.
All I've been cutting is Pine and Maple recently.
Time for that chain to make a trip for a little Pallet Pete magic massaging.

That's a nice price on that chain, Dave. From the hardware on the corner?

It's from the hardware just south of Kittle Rd. on M-33 north of Mio.
It's an Amish (I think) store. They've got good prices on a lot of stuff.
Was looking for a replacement for the 18", but they didn't have one.

That's a real good buy on that chain. I have te same saw and use that same chain but have never bought one for that price. I think the best I've ever done is 16.50 but had to buy more than 1 to get that.
