The big Chocolate Lab in my avatar used to help unload my trailer He would pick up the splits and bring them to me. I miss that dog. RIP Jake!
You can do better than that! I don't ever run mine that empty. No need to weld anything, as it's just the play in the wheel bearings added to the play in the walking arm on the shaft causing so much negative camber under load. If you take the walking arms off and just run a single wheel on the axle you will lose a lot of the additional play and the single wheels won't have so much negative camber. With how I consistently load mine I am keeping an eye on the main steel beam and it's still straight. I've hauled 80+ cord out of the woods loaded like this and the same 80+ cord from the splitter to the wood stacks loaded like this. Not a single issue. Although I don't think I'm over the 1,500 capacity limit though. I may be, but I don't think so. It holds about a 1/4 cord when split and stacked in the trailer as shown below. According to this, a 1/4 cord of green red oak weighs about 1,200lbs and white oak about 1,400lbs. Single wheel:
Our goldens just take the splitter trash from the woods into the yard where they chew it into a bazillion pieces to leave it for the lawn mower to hit.
If she were mine she'd be retrieving ducks and playing doggy games, taking place of my wife's yellow lab that is a couch potato. LOL! Didn't want me to train her for a a working dog. Guess that means I'll have to buy my own. LOL!
Its going to rain like crazy Sunday into next week, I am going to cut and split as much of this log pile the next two days.
Crazy question for ya, do you dump it then stack it? I usually use the dump feature up most of the way then reach in the back and stack right out if it. Curious what others do with dump trailers.
Sometimes I will raise the dump bed and unload from the bed as the wood gravity feeds down. As stated in my post I dumped the wood and will stack it later. I needed the trailer to haul some lumber and this weekend I might need to haul trash and brush. The pile of wood is by the stacks and I can stack throughout the week.
Does this count as a loaded truck ? It’s some mystery wood I got at my sisters pruning some trees that I haven’t unloaded yet. If not maybe this trailer load of Osage will make up the difference. I will have to bring the tractor or skid loader back for the big fella, I’m not going to try & toss them in by hand.
I got another wagon load of Osage today, I just split the big boys where they were & put them in the trailer. I planned on loading the pickup also but like a DA, I walked off & forgot my water. Today is the first mid 70* day of the year & its humid from the rain so I am not acclimated to the temps & humidity yet. I will just go unload what I have & go from there.
Got a nice head's up from the power line crew that the property owners where they were dropping a couple decent Norway maples wanted the trees cleared ASAP. Drove down this morning and loaded the truck up with smaller stuff and then took the tractor and trailer back (just shy of a mile away). Detached the trailer, used the grapple to load and then hooked up and drove away. Great SS wood and can't beat the price!
I was thinking I might get caught up, so I put an end to the crazy thinking. Just can’t turn down white gold, no matter how gnarly it is. It’s been a couple bumper crop years for White Oak. There is still a log left that is going require a bigger machine to get loaded.
Snagged 2 quick loads of red oak the other day! Gotta love when it’s easy access right next to the road!
Load of red oak splits i moved last weekend. They were stacked in the woods at her moms house but she passed away suddenly and the house changing hands. Got a second load but forgot to take pics.
