Thanks! Living in NC there are high standards, so we try to live up to them as best as we can. The youngster is growing and learning. He’s a fan of splitters with the log lift, and tractors that can carry firewood. He prefers the loader bucket to the forks, I guess because his little toy loader has a bucket.

Hope all is well down in GA, and please tell Miss Carol hello for us!

We got the pecan and oak cooking wood ready for the school BBQ fundraiser on May 5th.
    A little over 1/2 cord. 0421211243_HDR.jpg
    0421211243a_HDR.jpg
We made oodles of noodles, mostly oak. Had some big knotty pieces. Used the XS362 on some and finished ising the MS461. 11135.jpeg
Trimming off the sap wood. It had spalted, light weight. 11140.jpeg

I know they are. It was wood we had to clean up from a church, an older man had been cutting on it, had heart attack and passed. I was gonna just chunk it up for an OWB, but that guy decided he wasn't going to use it anymore. So worked out for this cooking. We had some we split though.

Im not a big fan of them myself. Sometimes i have to take them though. Do you tell your tree guys to minimize the gnarlies or you take the good with the bad Joe?

Yeah you gotta take the good with the bad. I know you’re always up to the task though

I don’t mind cutting up big oak crotches. I’ve started doing it more instead of making more trash and irregular pieces trying to split them.
The saw cut pieces are heavyweight blocks that feel like they should burn for 2 days. It takes more time, but it’s more opportunity to run the saws.

X2 If i cant easily split it it gets tossed aside then ill go to town in a noodling session. Saw time is more fun than BMB trying to split a gnarly

What is your normal MO when encountered Joe? Buck then put aside and noodle later? Put the whole log aside?

I try to avoid noodling because time is money. I generally save a bunch of them and just dedicate a few miserable hours to the task

After we finished up the pecan and oak order last weekend, I called our BBQ customer. He said he was ready for a 1/3 cord of cherry now. Time to turn on the lights and Git'ter done.
We finished up a few oak chunks and bucked up the cherry logs we got in July 2019. 0426212118.jpg 0426212242a_HDR.jpg
It's taking some time to trim it up, but the heart is still really solid 0426212242_HDR.jpg 0427212228_HDR.jpg
Got a few more of the older rounds to do 0429212049.jpg
I know we didnt have enough to finish the order, so we dropped 2 cherry trees last night, walking distance from the house.
    0429212001_HDR.jpg Kinda thick area
    0429212001.jpg
We had enough time to get 1 skidded out, bucked into 7 1/2' logs and carried to the woodyard. Going thru the tractor shed... 11518.jpeg
Both of those trees were tall. Got 52' of main trunk from 1 tree. Still have the bigger limbs to cut. 0429212050.jpg 0429212050a.jpg
Gonna get the other one out of the brush when I get off this evening.

Well, only the top limbs on 1 side were in the road amateur cutter 0430211901.jpg
Thick brush it fell in. 0430211901a.jpg 0430211923.jpg 0430211923a.jpg
Trimmed up the top and used to 'Bota to pull some of the jungle out with it... 0430211927.jpg
The logs from both trees, bucked maybe 5 or 6 to 18" length 0430211952.jpg
Started the splitter @8:10, finished up the older rounds first 0430212011_HDR.jpg
Once we got to the fresh rounds, it went pretty quick, done by 10:00PM 0430212202.jpg
Cherry logs we have left. 0430212203.jpg
Our light set-up. Had an old 8' wood ladder. Works great. 0430212202_HDR.jpg

We have been working on more smoker wood for our BBQ guy. He picked up the cherry and wanted pecan next. We had gotten a big tree a couple months ago, so this worked out great.
It seems that pecan is host to a type of fern and moss 0504211521.jpg
We didn't want that in his cooker, so we cleaned them up, even Miz Carol helped out on that...
    0510210945_HDR.jpg
Cleaning helped find some hidden treasure...lol... 0504211503.jpg
    0505211640.jpg
Even then, still found a few with the saw 0510211122.jpg
We've got 2 face cords on this rack 0505212124a.jpg
Then we had some big older rounds that had to be noodled. Made a small mountain... 0505211832_HDR.jpg
Got a nice stack of dry pieces he can start with. 0505212124c.jpg
Yesterday morning, we finished cleaning and bucking the longer logs 0510211124_HDR.jpg
And then split enough to finish the front row. 0510211244_HDR.jpg
This is what we have left, plus 1 section of main trunk. We will have a bit more than a full cord when done. 0510211244.jpg
