White is great until it snows, then I like fluorescent orange. Yellow isn't a bad choice either. I find that it depends on the direction of your range, position of the sun and cloud conditions. Keep a couple cans in your range bag or at the bench for touch up. Have fun!
No shooting Sunday. The son and I are going on The Slimy Crud Run. A motorcycle gathering. vroommm vroooomm
I agree with the color choices/lighting and I don't have metal target plates but I sure like the florescent orange, green is great on a dark background too. I found myself buying those sticker targets of these. Pink is a nice idea if you're shooting with the ladies!
Welded the holes shut on my mild steel swingers and found some orange paint. Should be all set for the next episode of “you’ll shoot your eye out”
Make it a point to try and hit those welds... I'd be curious to know if the steel is hardened in those areas or if a rifle round can still punch straight through
Might be a good idea to grind those welds flat. Pocked steel will send jacket fragments back, not sure what welds would do.
I got this deal on Monday and could only pick up 3 of the Federal Automatch. I also hailed my lady, Sugarbug who happened to be in the area and she got her limit. So we'll be ready to plink come Summer. This morning I managed to grab some Estate 12Ga shotshells. I don't wanna call this catching up but at times I find myself getting ammo for others and extending the savings to them. A father near me is getting his 9 year old son to into hunting but no ammo for his .243 Win. Well I happened to find some in a Sportsman's on the way home. It isn't much but what counts is the time they'll have together. Good luck in finding ammo for you all today.
You lucky SOB, nice score! We actually just got a box of 243 Federal Power Shok. Had to buy the Savage compact too to get them though.
Thanks. It's actually been minutes since I've seen actual .22LR in the store and I've been patient. Edit: I was almost thinking the way they had the .243 ammo I would have had to buy the rifle for it as well. Good thing that wasn't the case. But hope that was kind on your wallet Softwood?
X2, seriously. I've been sitting on my last 450 rounds of 22LR for a LONG time now, that I don't dare waste. I was in Walmart today and all they had were the same 2 boxes of 410 shells they had 6 months ago. Sad state of affairs.
Yeah it was a good deal, the 10 year old daughter needed a deer rifle. The local Scheel's has the Savage Axis compact/youth (.243 is the only caliber option) topped with a bore sighted Weaver 3by9 scope(not the best, but good enough for the 100 yard and under shots she'll take). The total with the box of ammo was $410 including tax.
Eric was right, it is a sad state of affairs. What hurts worse is the companies selling it for for well over a hundred dollars and profit at least 5x.
I looked again and for the first time in a long time I can actually find 45-70 online. It is still expensive but there are a few more options and they are slightly more affordable. It might not be much but I am seeing a light at the end of the tunnel.
