Where's the 500i ?

I stopped by G&H. Plenty of pro saws...261, 362, 462, but no 500 or 400. Asked and they did ge4 500i's a few weeks back but they went in a day.

 

I have to drive by there later on my way to night job , hope that my truck is made of aluminum so that the magnetic field doesn't drag me in.

 

I had to go to the pharmacy next door so my CAD got me! Giant Oak later! Good shower here now so work day in limbo. Might as well go chain saw shopping!

Ran another tank through her (almost) and got rained out. Didnt really need it for smaller oak but heck it had cut all the other wood here. Saw continues to impress.

 

I've got a few more tanks through this week. Today I finished bucking up the 3 stemmed cherry and moved over to the maple. I could have done it with the 20" bar but since both my 20" chains were dull, I decided to swap on the 28" light for the first time. Let me just say, I LOVE having the longer bar on there. Being the light, it didn't add much weight but the reach was very noticeable. I also contrasted the Husky XCut chain to the Stihl. I think new vs. new, the Stihl was the clear winner. My dealer was out of 20" Stihl chains when I bought my 500 so I grabbed two Husky chains which I had liked on my previous saw. However, the Stihl seemed a touch better when I gave it a go on my 28" bar. I also have an Oregon 28" to try next. Anyways, the obligatory pics from some of today's labor... (I also chipped the crowns of all the trees and split 2/3rds of the wood...)

 

Saw looks great with a light bar. I have a few xcut chains and agree it doesn’t hold an edge as good as Stihl.

 

I have multiple dealers with my name on the call list for these around central NY. Anyone near by, let me know as there was one nearby that arrived Friday!!! Added a pic as she is pretty, yet stupid fun to run!

I ended up buying a 500 after all. I asked the local dealer about on about a year ago and when they finally got one I felt obligated to buy it. I've only cut just over three cord with it so far. We are going up to get two more cord of fir tomorrow. Just curious what everyone else paid for theirs so far? I paid $1300 with a full wrap handle and a 24 inch light bar. I didn't need anymore bars, but it was thrown in. No sales tax in Montana (yet)
I do like the throttle over the 462. Uses quite a bit more fuel though.

 

I paid $1414 including 6.35% CT sales tax. 25" bar with normal (not wrap) handle.

I paid $1365 OTD for mine with a 20" bar, 28" light bar, (x2) 20" chains, and one 28" chain.

 

Couple more tanks through it. Lots of noodling. Kicks azz wearing the 22" bar.

 

Looking good Brad. Mine is covered in fir dust sitting in the back of my work truck. Just curious, are they not putting the wrap handles on those 500s back east? Dealers always have had wraps on saws bigger than 70cc in this neck of the woods.

 

You can get them, but not a common sight on OPE dealer shelves. buzz-saw got a full wrap on his. Ive never owned/used a full wrap handled saw.

 

That I did , and put some larger dogs on it as well.
Handle seems to be on back-order everywhere. After doing some searching on line I was able to get on a waiting list for one , they sent me an e-mail that it was in so I grabbed it.

 

I am only a little over 4 tanks through mine and it did something strange yesterday. I warmed up the saw and limbed a decent blow down larch. Then I skidded the 2 logs out to the road to buck. When I went to restart the saw, I hit the decomp and gave it a pull. The decomp didn’t pop up so I pulled again. Then I pulled thr decomp up by hand and gave a few more pu lls. Not even a pop or a sputter. I am guessing that it flooded. I grabbed the 361 and bucked up one log and then gave the 500 another try. It started on the first pull. Kind of bizarre. I think that I will not touch the decomp from now on. Anyway, the saw cuts amazing and loves to pull a 28” full comp. The old 361 was glad to see some action.
