Ran into one of my wood customers the other day. He says stop by and give him a price on turning some logs into firewood for him. (he sold me the 460 powerhead for $40 three years ago) He had some Norways and a silver maple taken down and staged in his yard. Quoted and started Saturday. Ran a tank through 500i, 460, 036 working the bigger wood. Lots of noodling. Five saws today. 028, 261, 036, 361, 500i. Ended up noodling most of the silver as it wasnt easy splitting. After four plus hours this afternoon i called it quits. An hour tomorrow to finish. He'll stack and clean up. Before i started. The gnarly log on the left was a major PITA to chunk down. Termites under some of the silver maple bark. Boatload of noodles. Thats a 16" long round on edge for scale. Silver maple "splits". on left. Most noodled. Lots of nuggets. Typical when i process tree service wood, especially yard trees. Norway i kept separate. The silver was dead and can be burned in the late Fall. 5 saw plan today. 036 left, 500i top, 028 middle, 361 front, 261 right. Whats left. Mostly splitting and a few big uns ill noodle.
Oh man....do I need to pull out a six saw plan now!!! . Joking. Looks like a good collection and some nice work!!! I struggled hard today, all day on the computer..... much prefer to be out working.
Seeing your group pics was an inspiration of sorts. I wanted to run the 028 as its been a few months since it was run. What a difference after running it then pro saws after.
When i bought the 460 powerhead i only owned my 290 and Husky 334 top handle (which i rarely used) and didnt know or realized what a "you suck" deal i got. He offered it to me and not knowing i looked it up then called him back the next day.
I have 36" for huge logs which i seldom use. 28 & 25" bars for normal use. I grabbed a 25" when i went Saturday but it hadnt been sharpened so the 22" Carlton bar saw (no pun intended) big wood and noodling duty.
Ive got bout 6.5 hours in so far. Shouldve got more but he is a good customer. He did offer gas and oil and shouldve taken him up on it as im 8 tanks of gas into it between all the saws. Guessing another hour today. I had planned to hand split the silver but it wasnt that easy and "splitting" with the saw is more fun!
That bar came with the 361 when i bought it last Summer. It bugged me being off brand and odd sized but like it more and more as it can handle bigger wood and not as unwieldy as a 25 or 28".
I’ll take the hit for that red headed stepchild named Carlton in my defense it came as an extra when I bought the 361. Right now I have a 20” on my 462. A few more inches wouldn’t hurt. I can see the utility of it. Soooo, the logic is buy a truckload of saws and you don’t need to haul gas and oil to the job site? Works for me LOL
