I went to my regular OPE dealer to buy a 6 pack of oil for mix. They are the dealer i bought my 170, 194T, 500i from in the last year plus. I was hoping they may have an MS400 as id prefer to buy one from them as im dealer loyal for the most part.

I walked to the Stihl saw display and was SHOCKED to see only two saws (194 &201 rear handles) on the shelf. Asked if getting any 400's and he says probably see them next year...but they got two more 500i's after i bought mine in the Winter.

Two weeks ago i walked into the one in my home town and good selection of Stihls including pro saws (no 500i) and two 400's???

I have three Stihl dealers within 15 minutes of my location. I get different stories from all of them???

Sounds like they aren't doing inventory right. If one can keep his stock up and another can't. Well just saying.

Depends on what ranking the dealer has . Silver, Gold or Platinum. My dealer tells me they just can't get saws (or parts). They would be a platinum dealer but because they sell Milwaukee? hand tool and there is a battery operated chainsaw there Stihl won't bump them up to platinum. I was in my tractor dealer yesterday who sells Stihl and there was only 1 battery saw there. Don't want to go here but if people don't go back to work, nothing is getting made.

Anything needed to be ordered, can take up to a year. We heard that recently when bying furniture.

Retails stores need to have the financing to place large enough orders to keep shelves full. Timing of the order also comes into play, with such long order times.

For consumers, its going to be hit or miss for a while. Good to have multiple outlets for options. M

The echo dealer be me had a one day sale recently. I needed a couple loops so I made a point to stop in that day some what thinking about buying a back up saw. They literally had 5 saws in stock all homeowner models. The guy said I could buy any model and get the discount but couldn’t say when he would get it. It sucks for them that they can’t get inventory.

Dealers buy the saws from Stihl, so I’d say the dealers that have 400’s had orders placed early for the 400’s, so they got them as they became available. I also believe the high volume dealers get preferential treatment from Stihl. The Stihl dealer I buy my saws from rarely has many pro saws on the shelf. I ask and he places an order.
I’d assume your dealer could order a 400 for you if you want one.

I've been on the manufacturers end for "authorized dealers" in the past. Of course I don't know about Stihl but it's more likely than not to require like most others do..... a minimum order-that is often times too big for small dealers to purchase.

Hypothetically, 5 each of these big saws, 7 each of these medium saws etc., add PPE or oil canisters and more. Many small dealerships can only afford to buy those minimum orders occasionally.

This may be an exception, but I recently got the outer dog and bolts for a 462 for $15
The outer dog for a 272 cost $28 and another $8 for the nut and bolt.

462 don't make enough power to require an outside spike,so that's prolly why you found one cheap:rofl:

That’s weird because it cuts faster than a 371 and 272 with 2 dogs.

I was at my largest saw dealer yesterday, and glanced at the saw shelf. It had been fairly well stocked all of last year and was also for the first month or two of this year but yesterday, very low on saws, and didn't have but one 462 CM and another Rescue saw, and a 170, and one or two top handles, and that was about it. No 261's and no 500i's although I had seen the 500i's in there before. I bought a 261 and a 462 from them last year.

I don't know, I haven't even ever seen one around here, yet.

Yes, I sure had a case of CAD for several months.

I hope I have about quenched my thirst for new saws, but I do have a 32" long Tsumura lightweight bar on order. I had resisted it for a while, thinking the 28 was as long as I would ever need, but after spending a day earlier this week, cleaning out a badly overgrown fence row where reach was oh so nice, and needed, I was running a 28" on my 462 and thinking "I am going to get a 32" for this kind of thing". So, here I go, looking forward to seeing that brown truck pull in the driveway, actually, I think it was shipped USPS, so no brown truck this time. :)

Good One! Actually, I have seen several cases of CAD on this site. It's contagious, and there is no vaccine. You just have to wear it out, if that's possible.

If the dogs make a difference in cutting times, the chain needs some work.
