The wind snapped this red maple about 14' up. Besides the top (of the top) being hung up in the trees, you can see that the middle of this top is also sitting on top of another broken and rotten tree about 16' up in the air. Well we had good cover behind the other 3 stems of this junky stump growth so cut a notch and crossed our fingers. The above was one of the scenarios that I envisioned. Yes, the break had enough "meat" left to hold up the stump, the other stump 16' up is not rotted enough and is supporting the whole farking mess perfectly in place. We got it down without any drama, just a lot of laughs.

I didn't mention that there was a substantial in that maple top, around 4-5" each side that was straddling a 3rd tree restricting any movement except toward the stump. It was just a fun challenge with so many factors but some of these eliminated it's possible direction to fall. I could have walked the excavator down to it but what's the fun in that.
