Yep, dad and I splitting his hoard. Didn’t quite finish, but very close. 2nd load: Split in the lower yard and moved to his driveway carport.
I use my truck often to move splits. Will he burn that this Fall or have you instilled the 3 year plan on him?
Pfttt. He’ll burn the white oak I just split this winter. They have an open fireplace and really need an insert. They try to heat their living space with it. I’ve tried but it falls on deaf ears unfortunately.
huh? They are stubborn in their old age. I tried to do the same many years ago when i owned my house, but got the insert couple years later and it was a game changer. Have you looked for a decent used one for them? Maybe joint gift fathers day etc.? My sister and i bought one for our dad after i got mine. If all else fails cut one year drying wood for him orrrr you could give him your three year old oak???
I don't think the misses will give the ok for the insert. And I've sold wood twice and ended up shorting myself, so although it may sound selfish, I'm very hesitant to share my hoard. I do need to try harder to influence on the insert. Dad really has a hard time keeping up with the amount of wood, even though I'm doing the lions share of the work.
Half cord load of splits i delivered yesterday. Good portion of cherry with ash, sugar maple, sassafras and catalpa. New regular burner for inside burning. I dont ask why i oblige!
Sure is! I’m just sitting here wondering if that rig even feels that load? Like a fly sitting on your arm. Surely you can reach cab height.
Correct me if I am wrong, but that is probably one of the few new vehicles over 50k to come stock with steel wheels! Awesome rig! All it needs is an awesome headache rack and tool box with platform to hold the saws. Maybe a 395xp or two put on for good measure. Good on you for using a pickup like it should be used and keep posting those pictures.
Here is a shot from this past Saturday's work from the lot. Got about 3/4 cord between truck and trailer (maybe?) Going to make new rails for the truck to protect the back glass better and so I can stack more in it. Almost have replaced what I burned this past season and I haven't even made a dent in the rounds I have on the ground right now...
I say live and let live. I love a fireplace. I realize a lot of heat is wasted, but if you’ve got it, then burn it. Nothing like an open fireplace and if I ever build a home there will be one, as well as a place and a chimney for a wood stove and the same for a coal stove. In fact, I might just out a stove in every room...just because I can. LOL!! ...but I hear what you’re saying.
I'm putting the 1500 lb capacity to the test I might weld a piece of tube steel underneath to try and stiffen the frame up a bit.
Had to post the most beautiful day of the year. It was 59 degrees today. Just two weeks ago there was still a couple feet of snow where I cut today. Worst part of the day was finally checking the air filter on that 500i after 7 cord of dusty doug fir. I usually blow out my saws at night, got lazy the last couple of weeks. Can't believe how dirty the filter was. Surprised it could breath. No more more abuse on that sucker.
It isn’t a loaded truck but the trailer is loaded. I finally loaded two piles that were split and piled up in the woods. I hand split some rounds and tossed them in the trailer too. I’ll dump it and stack it for the three year plan. The excitement was a little too much for our 9 month old Golden. She is done.
