    Hi again,

I'm probably buying a Sugihara bar from my 550xp. Not necessary, but it looks cool and I'm not afraid to admit that's what I want.

Thing is, the write-up for the product says it was designed for the Oregon 95txl chain. That's a narrow kerfy version, that is not readily available. I don't want to be hunting around for chains and have been happy with the performance of the standard Oregon available at any hardward store. The M72, 18" .325 .050 is what I normally get to run on my stock Husky bar and have been happy with it.

Anyone know if the regular version will work? I won't buy the bar if I need to spend extra time and dollars hunting for chains.

I’ve bought 2 Sugi’s. Neither were n/k versions so rest assured, they do make regular width bars. Just make sure you order the standard.

You can’t use standard chain gauge in a narrow kerf bar. I prefer to use bars that accept commonly available chain gauge. I bought a tsumura bar and had to special order 3/8 .63 because no ope dealer in the area has it in stock. I should have spent a little more for the Stihl light bar. The extra $ spent on a chain negated savings on the bar. Everyone stocks 3/8 .50 chain

OK, just to make things clearer...here are the two 18" bars, 72 drive links, .325, .050

BC2M-0H45P-A Sugihara 18" Pro Lam [Quick Cut Version] - .325 .050 72 drive links - Sugihara Guide Bars

BC3U-0J45-A Sugihara 18" Light Type Pro [Quick Cut Version] - .325 .050 72 drive links - Sugihara Guide Bars

The first I can't buy locally. The second I can. But in both cases, the description mentions how they're designed for this 95txl chain. If I can't use the readily available M72 Oregon chain...not really worth it to me after all. I can always pick up a better Oregon or Husky bar for less than half the price of the Sugihara.

I know I don't know everything about chains, but both look to be the same as far as what bar they would fit. I am thinking the kerf if different has more to do with tooth size, but both are .325, both are .50 gauge and both have 72 drive lengths. There may be some slight difference in bars but all that is needed to know for a chain to fit a bar is those three numbers: in this case, .325 and .050, and 72 drive lengths. And of course your drive sprocket has to match, with should be correct if you are already running .325 chain.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong here.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. As long as the numbers match should be good to go. Bumping the thread...hope someone can confirm.

A narrow kerf (95 series) chain has narrower cutters and needs a skinnier bar (I measured 0.075" on a Husky and Oregon NK bar). A M72 regular kerf chain would work fine on this bar. However, a 95 series chain may not have the kerf clearance if you use a regular 0.325 width bar!
Is a 0.075 wide bar more flexible than an 0.085-090" wide one? Maybe not so much in the shorter ones!
