Ran another tank full through her yesterday. Noodled sugar maple and bucked some big oak. NOTE: tree service wood.
I am 6-8 tanks on my hustihl ported 500i it should be seated by now. It is my favorite of any I have ever owned. The throttle response just blows everything else away. It’s worth the price of admission.
Back 30 years ago when I had more time than money, that $99 Polan cutting red oak tops after professional logging went through. Sure did cut some wood with that saw over the 15 or so years before I wore it out, replaced it with a used 028 super from a garage sale. Had the 028s for at least 10 years. Those 2 saws saved me thousands in heating cost. My 500 will do in a hour what would take the 028s 2-3 and that Polan 5-6. Hope I never have to go backwards, sure am spoiled. I have a poor ole 362cm with 4-5 tanks that don’t get used now that I have the 500. Need to send it to huskihl to get ported so I can stop complaining as much when I use it.
Got the 500 and the rest of the fleet down at my mom's for the week along with the splitter and chipper. I usually do her firewood further back on her lot but this year she wanted trees dropped behind her garage that were overgrown and shading the roof to the point of some pretty extreme moss growth. I have my buddy who's a tree guy coming tomorrow to help drop a couple that are leaning toward the garage but I got started today on a smaller red maple along with a decent size... wait for it Brad... BL! I never realize how much she had of it on her property and I'll be taking 3 in total. The 500 stuck to it's 20" baby bar today but tomorrow the 28" goes on for the large red maple. I've also got a trio of nice cherry that will be getting a new home in her wood shed. Good times... A pic for you Bradster...
Does anyone with the 500i have the wrap handle on theirs ? I broke down and put one on mine ( it actually arrived late yesterday afternoon ). Probably needed it like a hole in the head but I always wanted a full wrap and ...............well it looks cool !
I have the 3/4 wrap that is part of the R package. I wouldn’t want to cut on steep ground without it. It allows so many more good hand positions. The R version also comes with the larger dawgs and a bigger clutch cover. Some guys love and some hate the wrap handled. I think that the advantages outweigh the downsides.
That's the one , I don't have the larger dogs but had thought about it. I did look briefly to see about them but got sidetracked and have not looked any further. I will have to look and see whats available. I don't want to loose too much of the cutting length of the bar since right now it has only a 25 inch bar. I do have longer bars that will fit the saw but wanted to stick with the 25 inch for now.
You may be able to find them on ebay. Dunno about OEM. I bought the ones for my 460 on ebay. Those were custom made.
