Had to run to the greenhouse supply place today for stuff and picked up some new flower pots for the deck walls. They told me they were already running out of some styles. The must have 50 or more types. Mrs.FS liked these. Less than $3 a piece
I really like forsythia. Mom's is coming into bloom now as well. Next trip over I am going to take cuttings from it.
My earliest bloomer of any kind, the Burgundy Belle maple. IIRC, it has been the first bloomer since planted in 2017. I do have some Hyacinths setting up buds. The lilacs, other maples and forsythia are waiting.
This time of year this area is in full sun so this batch of Hyacinth is budding earlier than others in the yard.
Nice show of colors Midwinter. Do you know what the blue flowers are? Not much to show here. Big box orange has their wildflower seed mix in. I grabbed a few bags of those to plant in a couple of weeks. I processed some seed heads from an echinacea of some sort. Sifted the chaff out and planted a few in peat pots to see if they are viable. A few black spruce seed pots are moved into a tray and covered with some mulch. I am hoping it will keep the temperature and moisture a bit more even. Still have a bunch in the fridge continuing to stratify. Spruce peats on the left, echinacea in the 4 pears, crabapples I grew from seed on the right. We need rain and a few more weeks before these go in the ground. Beach plum seedlings haven't shipped yet.
The blue flowers are Scilla Siberia, a minor bulb. They are easy to find and multiply well. I got a few seeds to sprout from some fancy echinacea seeds I got from bogieb. I think I saw them resprouting this spring.
Finally figured out what you meant! You are right, the medallion looks like crossed sabers or swords to me.
I wish I knew how old that bed is. It was in an OLD house that my brother had moved to our place in the early 70's.
