Had room for a pickup load in my shed and the weather was perfect. My dad and I each got a load. Hemlock is my least favorite of the woods I cut, but I'll take it. I've had dynamite luck finding down trees along this particular road the last 5 years. This stuff will probably get burned 2 years from now.
Nice rounds there. Fond memories of my 290. Sold it last year. Cut a lot of wood with it and was my only saw for many years.
Stihl green label. I've tried a couple other stihl chains and never noticed a difference. Maybe it would matter more if I was cutting real hardwoods.
I bought this saw new in the fall of 2011. With the 3.5 cords I burn a year, plus the wood I cut for friends, family, and neighbors, this thing has probably cut 5 cords every year. Never had a single problem with it.
So it's just a standard green low kickback Sthil chain not a skip tooth or other special type chain. looks like it did a really good job for you, thanks for the information i use the same Sthil chain but keep reading where others are using different chains so it's good to find someone like you getting the results you get with the standard green chain.
Looks like a perfect day for cutting! Why is Hemlock low on your list, low btu, hard to process, or "other"?
Bought mine new Fall 2010. My only issue was the clutch bearing seizing and i broke the handle. The original bar.
A good day for sure. I’ve never gotten much Hemlock. Mostly Alder on my place and Fir if I can find it elsewhere. But I’d sure take Hemlock before I went cold. Looks like a great place to cut. I've had some good hemlock that acts just like Doug fir for firewood. And I've had hemlock that's sluggish to get burning no matter how dry it is.
