Thanks for the kind offer, but big rounds and my back dont go well together. They do make lots of splits though!

I did have to noodle a couple and thought of you Brad. You don’t have to lift them since you Jane split everything, just roll it off the tailgate :) after maple mountain I swore I’d never get big wonky maple again...ugh

I don’t know why that autocorrected to Jane split and not hand split. It’s not like it’s inferior to hydro on the manliness scale

Well it's time to join you guys again, been awhile and I'm going to have to re-read where I left off and get you guys up to speed. There's been 2 kids, a giant wood shed and a tractor since I started this thread.

Ok, I'm back up to where I left off. A large part of my hiatus was due to developing carpal tunnel syndrome which took over a year to finally agree that was the diagnosis and had the procedure done on the left hand the week before Thanksgiving and the right the week after. This past week my first week out running the saw since the surgery and things seemed fine. Little sore in the forearms the next day but nothing that wouldn't be from not doing a particular phyiscal activity in a long time.

Due to the carpal tunnel and a TON of other house projects, I'm going to have to get back to the 3 year plan once again. I'm on my last half cord or so of seasoned ash and have another cord and a half of some primo 3-4 yr old red oak. It takes so long but man is that my favorite. Should get me pretty close to the end of burning season here.

I've got dying/dead white ash up to my eyeballs thanks to EAB so we're going to be doing a lot of falling this spring/summer that I'm looking forward to. The splitting and stacking not so much, have contacted a couple guys about renting a processor to get myself caught up. That wood shed is looking mighty empty and lonely. I'm looking forward to getting those trees down becaues the tops keep popping off during every windstorm and it's dangerous around here, especially for the kids.

In thinking about other to-do items... I got more corrugated metal roofing and got it on, but never cut it to length so have to trim that up to match the rest. Of course that stuff was painted white on the underside and bothers my OCD... oh well. Painting the underside of the woodshed roof is not high on my to-do list when I need a 3yr plan catch up.

Also thinking about things you guys missed out on....
I've got the wood shed and tote system working fairly efficiently. Load tote, bring tote to deck, drop and refill as needed. I might take out one section of railing and be able to drop one or two totes right on the deck. Maybe get fancy and build some sort of track to slide it on.

Ideally I'd have enough totes for a 3 year plan and reduce the handling but I'm hesitant to double stack them with the littles running around. Half of the remaining wood for this year has been in the totes since it was split and has seasoned for 3 years. That's the nirvana - only handeling them once.

a really nasty case of poison ivy. I went to drop this really old decaying oak that was just a hazard but had a 4" fuzzy poison ivy vine running up it. I dropped it just fine and the plan was just to push it over the embankment with the tractor. However when it hit the ground, it somewhat shattered but the vine didn't. Went to just cut the vines and one whipped up and scraped my arm. Didn't think too much of it, just looked like dirt and sweat. Well I finished up the cleanup being as careful as I could and went in to shower and that dirt just wouldn't wash off. I scrubbed and it seemed more like a scab so I thought to just leave it alone, maybe I got scratched more than I realized. Within hours, both arms were broken out and my neck was starting. I texted a PA friend of mine to ask "when is poison ivy bad enough for meds?" I'm used to it in small cases but nothing like this breakout. Her response was "multiple limbs and/or neck". So that got me a dose of prednisone that worked wonders for the poison ivy as well as the carpal tunnel. I'd pay a lot of money for guranteed immunity from itchy stuff. While on the prednison I knocked out cutting back about a 1/2 acre of invasive burning bush that has encroached on our property. Too bad you can't feel that good all the time without consequences haha.

I've also got some wood that was questionable at first that has just sat and is no longer worth keeping. My plan with that is to carry it with the tractor and drop it over the embankment where the burning bush was to build that up to be a little less steep. Cover it with some woodchips and maybe top soil and plant some native wildflowers and ground cover for the pollinators. Long term goals of course.

I've got a bit of dirt removed from behind the woodshed but the access could be better. There's a couple big ash that will be coming down. Hopefully that helps a bit more sun get to that area too that has been fairly shaded.

I looked back on my thread and it’s old news by now. Plenty of pics in prior posts but here’s ones just cause I like you guys. I made a new mailbox post this summer. Did an initial set in concrete in a 5 gal bucket in the shop so it’d setup nice and level and plumb. Then brought it down to the road and installed it. Stupid rocks. All those rocks came out of that little hole.

What, are you so busy being an attentive and dutiful father that you don’t even have time to split some wood? Just couldn’t get out there to CSS while your hands were wrapped up from surgery, huh??

If anyone deserves a full and seasoned wood shed it’s you, bud. End of summer … you’ll be sitting on a mountain of a shed.
