Ahh, I just can’t do it. Just slightly west of that big ash pile that was there a few years ago. Not the deck in Marlborough, the ash pile in East Hampton. There’s the junction of 16 and 66 (a light) Then just past that another light and four way intersection. 66 and 151. The right road is Depot Hill (trains Brad trains) It’s close to the area in Portland I’ve been scouting. I just usually come in the back way and never see that crossroads. I knew there’s a few BL in the area but it’s a nice patch right on 66. And an even bigger one in Westchester off of 16. I think we should talk to the state and get exclusive rights to eradicate that invasive species wherever we find it
Beech is by far my favorite wood to burn. I'd take it over any other wood that's around me. And it season's very fast. I'm always surprised when I see some online sites that claim it takes a long time to season. I've been burning 98% Beech for the last 7-8 years and I've never had it take more than a year to get down to 11-13% on the MM.
So jo191145 let you push his buttons? I absolutely concur with this. I wish I had more Beech local to me, one of the best imo.
Further up in this post you mentioned that you were going to sell most of this Beech and keep a little for yourself to try. If I were you I'd keep all of it and sell some of your other wood. You'll be glad you did.
It’s a thought. My thinking was because it drys so fast I could split it up soon and it’d be ready for next season. No stacking, no covering, just split in a mound on high ground like everyone else does. Trying to save myself some work on the proposition. Everyone else around here sells oak right off the log. Those logs start seasoning the minute they sprout out of the ground ya know. Figured it’d allow me to get a head start on wood that’s better than the competition.
You already have a boatload of it stacked in your field. Can you part with a few cords of that? CSS the beech and that deck of birch in your front yard, stack single row with lots of sun and maybe ready for December...maybe! More than likely it'll be better than most of the competitors wood thats for sure.
But but but,,,,that’s my stash. Wouldn’t call it a stash if it did t have special meaning I seldom make plans for the future that are cast in stone. Come winter I may have a different mindset. Maybe I’ll find that beech just hasn’t dried enough. Got a few more loads today. Scratching through the sticks to get at the bigguns.
I got to rearranging a couple things in my beech pile and remembered you asked this question. I was curious myself so I split some branch wood I had stacked since August 2020. On this 3 and a half inch piece that’s been top covered and in the shade, it read over 20%. BUT, we still have a whole summer of drying left so I’m thinking had I left it alone, it would’ve probably been dry enough to burn this winter. I had a dozen or so pieces like this that I ended up splitting in half since I already had the splitter going.
