Last year I was laid off of my job sometime in April like a lot of other people that worked where I did. I was kind of at a loss for what to I should do. My job was a temporary factory job so it wasn't like I was planning on staying there anyway. Living at my parents at the time, I needed something to do to stay busy. Well my dad had an old tractor splitter so I decided I would split some wood. I started off with some silver maple rounds I found at my girlfriends parents. I started selling some wood, but I had a lot of questions. I started researching what wood is the best, how long does it take to dry, where to scrounge for wood, etc. I was really enjoying learning about trees and wood types and btus. A lot of which I found here and other online forums. I started to actually make a little bit of money once the campers started to get out. Word got out and I started supplying people regularly. Sometime back in June of last year I decided to join a couple forums to show the progress I had been making and hopefully get some answers to questions I had. I found fhc and tried to make an account but for some reasons unknown I couldn't get my email verified. Fast forward to yesterday I thought I'd try again and reached out to see if I could fix it. Im glad to say that I am able to be a part of this forum now! It feels like I've been sitting on the sidelines for the passed 11 months not being able to interact with anyone here, and reading about all of you guys' firewood endeavors(And Brad's obsession with black locust). Looking forward to sharing some of my own and being an active member of FHC!
Happy to have ya Woodchucker Sorry for whatever mishap occurred last year when trying to register. But glad you’re here now.
Chit happens. I’m not involved in the technical side or approving new registrations, but I can help fix posts and stuff, especially if a member notices a mistake beyond 4 hours of posting. BTW- you obviously know how much we like pics here, sooo....
Welcome! Always nice to see a new active member! Look forward to more posts from you, with lots of photos for all of us!
Welcome aboard Woodchucker ! Glad you got squared away on membership. Looks like you've been busy getting product ready. Nice to "meet" you.
We’ve got some trees over in this neck of the woods...in places. Judging by the pictures I saw, it looks like everything over there in your neighborhood got cut down for that GTG.
Nah, we have A LOT more where those came from. We have around 800 acres and most is pasture and woods. We farm the hilltops....
Welcome to the club, Woodchucker . Glad you got the problem figured out. Nice that you are resourceful when you got laid off and found something to do and make ... Our kind of folks.
