One more load so far, with plans to get another later today. About 50/50 black locust and elm.

brenndatomu you're an Ulmus connoisseur. When you cut green elm, do you let it sit off the ground top covered for a couple years before splitting? (Or not even bother with green elm?) :)

It just occurred to me how strange it must be for those not afflicted with locust mania. Especially those that have tried it and can take it or leave it, who find it to be “okay” firewood. Is it funny to watch us fiends drooooooling over it? Or is it getting really old at this point, something akin to watching madmen going cuckoo over what may as well be staghorn sumac?  Sorry guys, the mania has me in its grips and all that matters to me now are the ways and means to get more.

The obsession you and especially Bradley have for Black Locust is a bit alarming if I'm being honest. I've written it off though due to it being new and exciting to you boys.

Kind of like when you first try other new things and obsess over it until the newness wears off.

I do have to admit Brad's kept the level of excitement to a very high level for longer than expected!!!

Maybe its just because all the good Locust scores I find are like this....2.5 hours one way. Just too far to justify

    Free firewood - free stuff

Boy, I dunno about all that...;)
I take any and all elm...but I haven't had much green since learning the tip about letting it dry before splitting...for me its been 50/50 in how it splits...50% fine, 50% typical elm hairball mess...on the plus side, once dry those "splits" are "self kindling" ;)

Believe me if there were hickory logs scattered everywhere ripe for the taking I’d be all over them instead. Truth be told I don’t even have all that much. After burning a half cord of barkless this winter, I only have about 2 cords at this point. Brad is on another level. Like I told him, he reminds me of Bluto on Animal House. (I mean that in the best way Brad) :D

I wouldn't know one if I saw one. I was just going by what everyone says about them. Ranks with willow from what I gather.

That's what I've been hearing too. Burns hot but leaves a lot of ash behind. Seasons fast which is a plus, and any time we can burn an invasive species that's a win in my book.

I missed that thread Brad. That's good looking wood. Straight grained and looks solid but I guess it's not.
I was under the impression the TOH just didn't want to burn at all.
